Bitcoin buyers are stepping in after sellers failed to push the price lower.

The digital currency now trades near $84,518, roughly $1,700 higher, a gain of 2.11%. The move picked up steam once it cleared the 100- and 200-hour moving averages around $82,100. Buyers have also surpassed last week’s swing high at $84,178, giving them another favorable technical signal.

In the short term, buyers have taken charge. The task now is to maintain that control.

Where does the risk lie for buyers?

The nearest level to define risk is the broken swing high at $84,178. When price breaks above resistance, traders typically watch for that level to act as support. Staying above it keeps buyers firmly in charge. A drop back below would sap some momentum from the breakout.

For traders allowing more room, $83,000 offers another reference point. Below that, the 100- and 200-hour moving averages near $82,100 become a more critical support zone. Slipping back below both would weaken the bullish technical setup.

Each of these levels gives a different degree of breathing space, but greater room also means larger dollars at risk. Traders should adjust their position size to match the risk they select.

What is the next upside target?

$85,578 is the next target — the lower boundary of an upper swing zone inside the broader range that has contained trading since September 18. Above that, attention turns to the range high at $87,374.

Clearing $84,178 is a step forward. Clearing $85,578 would be another. Ultimately, buyers need to break and hold above $87,374 to unlock the path beyond the wider trading range.

The takeaway is that a failed move in one direction can create a chance in the opposite direction. Sellers had their opportunity to push lower but missed it. Buyers have responded by driving price above the hourly moving averages and last week’s swing high.
