Bitcoin Defies September Slump, Faces Demand Test in October
Bitcoin ended September up 6.33%, but demand from ETF buyers has faded and long-term holders are selling, testing the October outlook.
Bitcoin retests breakout zone near $82,833 as buyers defend support, but upside momentum fades.
Bitcoin traded slightly lower on the day, following a failed rally that peaked at $85,238. The decline brought the price to $83,161 before a partial recovery. At the time of writing, it stood near $83,787, a drop of roughly $600, or 0.71%.
The key technical point is whether buyers can protect the breakout that occurred earlier this week.
During Tuesday's session, Bitcoin climbed above the $81,517 to $82,833 swing area, reaching roughly $87,335. The bullish momentum then dissipated, and the price subsequently turned back toward that breakout zone.
Buyers stepped in near the top of that zone on both the previous day and during the current session. The latest low of $83,161 remained above $82,833.
When a breakout is followed by a retest, market participants can observe if the prior resistance turns into support. Those who didn't catch the first rally may try to buy near the former resistance, while those who profited from the breakout expect that level to hold.
Provided Bitcoin remains above $82,833, the bulls can claim the decline is merely a support test. A climb back above Thursday's high of $85,238 would strengthen that case and put the $87,335 peak back on the radar.
Should Bitcoin slip under $82,833 and subsequently fall through the lower boundary of the swing zone at $81,517, the outlook would shift. Breakout buyers would find themselves in losing trades, prompting some to close out. That behavior could amplify the downward pressure.
Further downside targets include the 100-hour and 200-hour moving averages, which lie in the $79,926–$79,365 range. Dropping below both would tilt the technical bias even more toward the sellers.
For the moment, buyers have managed to defend support, yet they haven't recaptured the upward drive. The swing zone serves as the gauge: holding above it keeps buyers in contention; falling below it would make the failed breakout the dominant narrative.
