Bitcoin Near $82k-$83k as S&P 500 Weakness Hints at Deeper Correction

Bitcoin consolidates near $82,000-$83,000 after retreating from above $87,000. CryptoQuant warns S&P 500 weakness could precede a deeper correction.

Having slipped from highs above $87,000, bitcoin is now settling between $82,000 and $83,000. According to a CryptoQuant analysis, the S&P 500 is demonstrating analogous signs of vulnerability.

Whether a more substantial downturn awaits is a point of division among analysts. The data provides some indications.

Bitcoin and the S&P 500 Are Moving in Lockstep

In a CryptoQuant report, analyst nocoffeenobrain highlights simultaneous frailty in both bitcoin and the S&P 500. This arrangement has historically come before more severe drops in cryptocurrency.

Yields on the 10-year Treasury are climbing toward levels not seen in many years, even as impetus dwindles in both the equity and crypto markets. Comparable situations arose in late 2018 and in the period from January through April 2025.

During the last part of 2018, yields declined from their maximums, stocks encountered strain, and bitcoin’s downturn grew more severe as the year concluded. In 2025, yields fell back from January peaks before disruption in April impacted both shares and bitcoin.

This cycle has not yet seen the S&P 500 undergo a full correction. Should equities suffer a more significant blow during the climb in yields, bitcoin might be pulled down. The triggers might not match those of previous events, however.

The CryptoQuant caution is significant because of that possibility. Frailty is now visible across various risk-on assets, not confined to one market. Additionally, yields will be observed diligently by traders in the upcoming trading periods.

Could the Market Be Heading for a Deeper Correction?

Jurrien Timmer of Fidelity observes that the market expanded last week, though within a declining market and amid the sale of the artificial-intelligence theme. Just 55% of equities are positioned above their 200-day moving average. While participation has increased, it stays weak, per his evaluation.

Last week the market broadened again, but it did so in a down-market as the AI theme got sold off. Breadth has improved but remains tepid at 55% (of stocks above their 200-day MA). The cap-weighted S&P 500 index has not really gone anywhere since early June, as equities remain…

The cap-weighted index of the S&P 500 has for the most part not moved since early June. It is caught between rising capital costs and a continuing earnings boom. Traders will monitor whether breadth picks up in the weeks ahead. A more extensive upturn would weaken the argument for a downturn.

The cautious view is not universal. Michaël van de Poppe perceives bitcoin as consolidating without a clear direction. He recommends waiting until the price definitively moves beyond its current range.

KillaXBT contends that the next bear cycle may never trade below $100,000, whereas Crypto Rover highlights a fast-approaching golden cross. Each of these perspectives relies on technical signals or cyclical reasoning, not on broader macroeconomic figures.

BITCOIN GOLDEN CROSS INCOMING SOON! 🚀

Historically, this signal has triggered massive $BTC rallies.

The disparity among opinions keeps the forecast unresolved. The trajectory for bitcoin might depend on whether stocks provide the more pronounced correction that has not yet materialized.
