BNB Chain Token Surges After CZ's Single Emoji Post

CZ Zhao's clap emoji post sent BNB Chain's GENIUS token soaring. He later questioned the link.

Binance founder Changpeng “CZ” Zhao responded to a new BNB Chain launchpad with a clap emoji on Thursday. Not long after, the GENIUS token shot higher.

Zhao then asked if his post was responsible for the price movement. He said he had not looked at the chart and instead highlighted a product launch from the project itself.

CZ Dismisses Link Between His Post and GENIUS Token

On Thursday, Genius Terminal — an onchain trading platform whose token runs on BNB Chain — launched a platform called genius.fun. Zhao reacted to the announcement with a single clap emoji.

The price of GENIUS rose sharply, briefly exceeding $0.42 before retreating during the day. With a market capitalisation near $118 million, the token is small enough that a single post can affect its value. It still trades well under its April peak of $0.95.

On Friday, after a user credited him with the price spike, Zhao questioned that connection. He said he posts about projects making progress on BNB Chain.

It might be the new release they made instead of my tweet?

I didn't (and still haven't) check the chart. I just tweet projects who makes good progress on BNB Chain (and elsewhere). 🙏 https://t.co/OyByHBd9xp

Zhao has previously moved small BNB Chain markets with his posts. A viral message in July gave one trader a 357x return on a token named after him.

Traders now monitor his account as a market signal, regardless of his intention.

Behind the New BNB Chain Launchpad

Genius Foundation, the organisation behind the GENIUS token, introduced genius.fun on Thursday. The same group launched an onchain options exchange in June. The launchpad pairs new tokens with tokenised public company shares known as bStocks, rather than only with crypto assets.

The team says buyers can send those positions to a foundation that converts them into actual equity. Holders could then vote in corporate decision-making. No campaign has taken a stake in any listed company yet.

That concept is disputed in established markets. AMC’s chief executive recently called stock tokens fake equity, and voting rights for stock tokens vary by issuer. Still, BNB Chain ranks among the busiest venues for tokenised stock trading.

CZ has argued that initial public offerings will move onchain. Genius.fun tests a more direct version of that idea. Whether any token campaign will lead to an actual shareholder vote is still unproven.
