Crude futures recover after earlier decline, reclaim $93.48
Crude oil futures rebounded after slipping to $91.70, reclaiming $93.48. The next upside target is yesterday's high at $94.36.
Crude oil prices surged to their highest since late September, driven by Middle East tensions and a technical breakout above key resistance.
Buyers have taken the reins again, making $93.48 a crucial support to defend.
Crude climbed to its strongest point since late September, supported by news of rising tensions in the Middle East. A move above a significant swing area provided additional impetus for the advance.
The price broke through resistance in the $92.29-$93.48 zone, hitting $94.36 before pulling back. It now trades around $93.56, with the decline staying above the upper boundary of that prior resistance band.
Consequently, $93.48 becomes the key near-term level for bulls. After a resistance break, traders look for it to become support. Holding above keeps the bias higher, while a drop below would weaken the breakout's bullishness, potentially allowing a deeper fall back into the swing zone.
Further upside objectives are as follows:
$94.36: the day's high.
$96.50–$97.00: late September swing highs.
$98.48: a higher swing peak.
Earlier, the situation was quite different. Oil dropped to $89.61, temporarily slipping under its 100- and 200-hour moving averages. But the selling pressure soon dissipated, and prices recovered above both averages.
Sellers had their opportunity but could not maintain the breakdown. Buyers regained command, and the hourly price movement since has been a mostly consistent uptrend.
The larger technical context also contributed to the bounce. Last week's bottom stopped around $86.93, the 50% retracement of the advance from early July's low to September's high. Maintaining that level gave bulls a reference point and preserved the broader uptrend.
Thin U.S. holiday volumes may have exaggerated the day's moves, and Middle East tensions continue to offer potential underpinning. Still, for market participants, the price points offer the most reliable direction.
The breakout remains valid. Buyers must now protect it. Staying above $93.48 keeps them in charge, making $94.36 the next obstacle.
