Cycle Signals Suggest When Bitcoin Could Retake Its Record High

Bitcoin could retake its $126,000 peak around 2027, with one analyst citing June 2027 and another targeting $170,000.

Bitcoin is currently about 35% below its all-time peak of $126,000. When might it return to that high?

Market cycle patterns lead prominent analyst Root to suggest the milestone could come by June 2027. Here is how he arrives at that date.

Historical Cycles Point to a New Bitcoin Record Within Eight Months

Root, author of the Bitcoin Strategy newsletter, compared the present recovery to three earlier cycles.

In earlier instances, bitcoin took roughly two years from the cycle bottom to begin notching new highs.

The most recent cycle did not follow that script: the spot ETF approval moved BTC to uncharted territory much earlier.

“If Bitcoin follows a similar recovery trajectory as previous cycles, instead of the historical two years, we should reach new ATHs by around the one-year mark at the latest, around June 2027.”

Root’s data show the 2015, 2018 and 2022 cycles all crossed above the scaled ATH line by about day 350.

The 2018 cycle was the fastest, hitting that mark near day 150. For Root, that opens a possible window about two to six months from now.

Why This Cycle Requires a Smaller Rally

The present setup also puts less strain on the market. From its October 2025 peak, bitcoin fell about 52% to a 2026 low close to $60,000.

Each of the previous three bear markets, by contrast, wiped out between 77% and 85% of bitcoin’s value. That means a move of only about 2x off the low would be enough for a new record.

Earlier cycles pulled off a comparable rise in roughly 12 months. Other halving cycle signals line up with that timing as well.

Channel Pattern Points Bitcoin’s Next Record to $170,000

Philarekt, another analyst, takes a longer perspective. Since 2021, BTC has moved within a single ascending channel on the three-week chart.

$BTC has been running inside the same channel for years

Every cycle higher
Every bottom higher
Every top higher

Philarekt says each successive bottom and top has been higher than the last. The 2026 low rebounded from channel support, putting the next record near $170,000.

His trajectory also has BTC moving above $126,000 for a time around mid-2027 before the eventual cycle top in 2028, a schedule that roughly matches Root’s.

Potential Hurdles for the Recovery

Both outlooks assume the low is already in. Binance Research, however, found that in four of five similar recoveries the market went back to test its low again.

The size of gains is also shrinking. Between the 2021 and 2025 peaks, bitcoin rose roughly 83%; a climb to $170,000 would represent a gain of about 35%. And each side of the channel has been confirmed by just two touches.

The cycle concept itself is disputed. The four-year rhythm, Willy Woo has argued, may give way to a longer TradFi cycle. Root, for his part, also cites rising rates and their effect on the business cycle.

All told, the signals suggest BTC could return to $126,000 in 2027, with the broader cycle high possibly not arriving until 2028.
