Time for average US worker to earn one BTC exceeds 12 months
As of September 2026, an average US worker needs 12 months of full-time wages to buy one bitcoin, down from 18 months in October 2025.
DogeOS testnet launched but DOGE price stayed flat because testnet tokens carry no monetary value.
Dogecoin (DOGE) saw minimal price movement after the DogeOS testnet became publicly accessible on September 30. The platform allows developers to build smart contract applications that pay fees in DOGE.
The DogeOS network was built by the same team behind the MyDoge wallet. For DOGE holders, the launch introduces a use case beyond payments and tipping.
Since the launch, DOGE's price has shown little change and remains below its late-September high.
DogeOS operates as a zero-knowledge (ZK) rollup, a layer-2 system that batches transactions and verifies them with cryptography. Its documentation states that data is stored on Ethereum while Dogecoin provides finality.
The network also supports the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM), enabling Ethereum developers to port existing applications with minimal adjustments.
On Dogecoin's main chain, DOGE already covers transaction fees. On DogeOS, it also pays for executing smart contracts, according to the docs.
Early projects include Barkswap (a liquidity engine), Derps (a perpetual exchange), and Snag (a prediction market aggregator), the team says.

However, testnet DOGE is obtained from a faucet and has no real monetary value, so the launch does not create any immediate demand for the coin.
Even on mainnet, rollup fees are typically low. The DOGE that is bridged and locked inside applications could have a greater effect for holders.
Ecosystem supporters nonetheless see a turning point. Timothy Stebbing, a director at the Dogecoin Foundation, expressed hope that DogeOS will become a gateway for the next 100 startups on Dogecoin.
“L1 ledger purity must stay intact while we introduce utility one layer above, and that is what DogeOS represents to me.”

The official Dogecoin account on X called the launch a huge milestone and hinted at additional ecosystem news.

Meanwhile, Dogecoin ETFs attracted record weekly inflows in late September, even as Bitwise moved to close its Dogecoin ETF.
Shiba Inu offers a cautionary example. Despite years as its own layer-2 ecosystem, Shibarium usage has collapsed.
DogeOS has not disclosed a mainnet date in its documentation. Whether DOGE's new role moves the price will likely depend on real usage following the launch.
