FUNDAMENTAL OVERVIEW

Over the past seven days, Ethereum has shown notable steadiness, even as the broader macroeconomic picture for riskier assets has grown more challenging. The higher than expected US monthly core inflation figures have effectively locked in a Federal Reserve rate increase on Wednesday, while crude prices above $100 per barrel are adding to inflationary pressures and strengthening the case for a more restrictive monetary stance.

Even with these headwinds, Ethereum has managed to stay relatively stable. This could point to crypto-specific factors offering short-term support that counterbalances the negative macro environment. A likely driver has been rising optimism around the cloture vote on the CLARITY Act.

The proposed legislation aims to give the US crypto sector a more structured regulatory framework, including a sharper separation of duties between the SEC and CFTC. It would also set regulatory standards for crypto exchanges, brokers, and dealers.

Increased regulatory clarity would likely benefit the crypto market. More transparent rules would lessen uncertainty for exchanges and traditional financial institutions, while potentially enabling asset managers and other financial firms to create and offer crypto-related products more easily. If the legislation succeeds, it could open the door to greater institutional involvement, more robust market liquidity, and additional capital flowing into the crypto space.

The near-term trigger comes today at 2:15pm ET, when the Clarity Act faces its first significant Senate test via a cloture vote, which requires 60 senators to agree to begin debate on the bill.

If the vote fails, the legislative window for crypto market structure this year could close, especially with the November midterms looming. Such an outcome would likely be negative for Ethereum and might prompt a selloff. But even a successful vote may not lead to gains. With the FOMC decision due tomorrow, I suspect Ethereum could see a classic "sell the fact" response as traders pivot their focus from the Clarity Act to monetary policy and the broader economic landscape.

ETHEREUM TECHNICAL ANALYSIS – DAILY TIMEFRAME

On the daily chart, Ethereum twice tested the 2,560 resistance but was unable to hold above it. This could be a bearish indication, especially given the macro climate. If the price retreats to the 2,360 support, buyers may step in there with a clear risk below that level, still aiming for a push toward the 3,000 mark. Sellers, meanwhile, would prefer to see the price drop below that support to add to bearish positions and target the major trendline next.

ETHEREUM TECHNICAL ANALYSIS – 4 HOUR TIMEFRAME

On the 4 hour chart, there is little extra to take from this timeframe, as the range-bound and choppy price action doesn't offer clear entry points beyond the main support and resistance that define the range. That said, the swing low near 2,462 could serve as minor support. Buyers might step in there with a defined risk below it to continue pushing toward new highs, while sellers will be looking for a break below to boost bearish bets and head toward the 2,360 support next.

ETHEREUM TECHNICAL ANALYSIS – 1 HOUR TIMEFRAME

On the 1 hour chart, there's not much to add, but from a risk management perspective, buyers would have a better risk-to-reward setup around the 2,360 support, whereas sellers would want to see the price break below it to extend the drop into new lows.

UPCOMING CATALYSTS

Today brings the cloture vote on the CLARITY Act. Tomorrow, the FOMC rate decision is due. On Thursday, the US Jobless Claims numbers will be released. Additionally, traders will monitor developments in the Middle East closely.
