Crypto companies have been removed from Reform UK's conference sponsorship list. The decision comes just days after UK police announced the forfeiture of $1.4 million in Bitcoin.

Nigel Farage's party is now offering slots to diplomats and manufacturing firms in their place.

Reform UK Cuts Crypto Sponsors Before Birmingham

Reform UK's yearly conference is set to begin in Birmingham next week. Last year, the digital payments firm Zebec served as a leading sponsor. This year, no cryptocurrency company is listed among the sponsors.

Bloomberg, citing sources familiar with the matter, reported that perks such as complimentary tickets and access to senior party figures have also been eliminated.

This comes as a parliamentary investigation looks into whether Farage was required to declare £5 million from Christopher Harborne, a crypto investor based in Thailand. His crypto-related lobbying has also faced separate review this year.

Diplomats and Manufacturers Take the Stage Instead

Farage's party occupies only eight of the 650 seats in the House of Commons, but opinion polls put it in the running for the 2029 election.

Nick Candy, the honorary treasurer, is showcasing international attendees. Diplomats from India, Italy, Poland, the UAE, and the US are anticipated, along with Jordan Bardella, leader of France's National Rally.

“The scale and breadth of the diplomatic presence at the conference next week is a clear indication of how seriously Reform is being taken internationally,” Nick Candy, Reform UK honorary treasurer, speaking to Bloomberg.

Not all are persuaded, however. A City of London public relations executive said renewable energy executives are still hesitant to attend, worried about lending legitimacy to the party.

On the first business day, over 600 tickets were sold, attracting companies such as JCB, TikTok, and Heathrow.

Is Reform abandoning crypto? Not officially. No policy changes concerning digital assets have been announced; the shift involves sponsorships and perks, not party positions.

The Birmingham conference will reveal a party that is managing its image amid an investigation, not one that is forsaking crypto.

Police Traced 20.21 Bitcoin Back to 2016

In another UK development, Avon and Somerset Police seized 20.21 BTC, along with other cryptocurrency and cash in a bank account, totaling £1,032,487.86.

Investigators linked the assets to darknet marketplaces operating between 2016 and 2019. These concealed online shops, accessible only via anonymizing tools, dealt in drugs and enabled human trafficking.

Because a blockchain maintains a permanent public ledger of every transaction, coins transferred in 2016 can still be traced.

The owner passed away before the forfeiture was finalized. However, under the Proceeds of Crime Act, the case is pursued against the property rather than the individual.

This represents the largest cryptocurrency recovery by the force since the UK implemented wallet freezing orders in April 2024. Larger seizures have occurred, such as a £114 million Bitcoin forfeiture.

The recovered funds are redirected to community and policing initiatives.
