Arthur Hayes's Uniswap position climbed past $2 million on Monday. According to Etherscan, a wallet linked to him now holds 284,102 tokens, amassed over two days of purchases.

Blockchain tracking firm Onchain Lens reported the purchases were split into roughly 244,400 UNI on Sunday and 39,700 on Monday. Neither order was accompanied by any governance vote, protocol upgrade, or apparent market catalyst.

Hayes Built UNI Stake Over Two Days

On Monday morning, a blockchain tracker flagged the second batch of purchases. The tracker identified an address that Etherscan calls "Arthur Hayes 4."

Etherscan estimates the stake is worth just over $2 million. The same wallet also holds approximately 8,013 ETH.

Hayes avoids placing large orders on open exchanges. This wallet has previously withdrawn Ethereum and stablecoins from Galaxy Digital, Cumberland, and FalconX. That pattern was established before this trade.

In August, he spent money to restake in Ether.fi after having exited that position earlier in the year.

Hayes also described UNI as his preferred sushi variety. In Japanese, uni means sea urchin, a high-end sushi ingredient.

He added to his position the following day.

Time to run it back turbo. I made a nice bag on the initial pump during DeFi summer back in the day. And it’s my favourite type of sushi $UNI.

UNI Still Trading Well Below Record Levels

On Monday, UNI was trading around $7.18, a gain of 2.55% in the past day. The token's market capitalization was approximately $4.47 billion, placing it 22nd in crypto rankings.

Over the past month, UNI has risen 76.8%. Still, it is 84% off its all-time high of $44.92 recorded in May 2021.

The majority of that rally was driven by Robinhood Chain. According to a fee breakdown from August, the Arbitrum Orbit network, which launched in July, accounted for 66% of Uniswap's total earnings across 47 blockchains.

This price increase occurred during a weaker overall crypto market, which fell 0.73% early Monday as US markets were closed for Labor Day.

Other significant holders displayed conflicting signals. According to Nansen data, whale wallets increased their UNI positions from 3.20 million to 3.46 million on September 2. However, those same wallets became net sellers of $130,256 on decentralized exchanges, suggesting some profit-taking.

Uniswap handles a larger share of this trading volume than any competitor. Whether Hayes's timing is good will depend on September's closing price.
