Lumentum Stock Surges 570% in 12 Months, Outpacing Nvidia and Micron
Lumentum shares soared about 570% in a year, outperforming Nvidia and Micron, driven by AI infrastructure demand.
MongoDB CEO CJ Desai resigned to join Meta, causing the stock to plunge 18.5% and lose over $6 billion in market cap.
CJ Desai stepped down as MongoDB's chief executive at 08:30 on Tuesday to move to Meta, giving up tens of millions of dollars in unvested pay. The company's market value fell by over $6 billion in eight hours after the announcement.
The chain of events turned the departure into one of the year's most notable CEO exits.
MongoDB's stock (MDB) on Nasdaq dropped from $401 to $360 within a minute of the news, erasing $3 billion in market capitalization by 08:31.
By the 16:00 close in New York, the shares had fallen 18.5%, wiping more than $6 billion from the previous day's market value.
The resignation came the day before MongoDB's Investor Day in New York, scheduled for 11:00 today. The event is now anticipated for a far more uncomfortable reason.
Analysts quickly revised their ratings on MDB, offering mostly negative assessments. Bank of America called the move "clearly negative" and said it "complicates the setup." William Blair said the news "creates more questions than answers." DA Davidson described the departure as "very disappointing." Needham termed the timing "unfortunate," and Stifel concluded that "there is no positive spin to this situation."
At Meta, Mark Zuckerberg expressed enthusiasm. "I'm excited that Chirantan 'CJ' Desai will join Meta as Chief Enterprise Platform Officer, reporting directly to me," he said.
Desai's role will involve bringing Meta's artificial intelligence tools to corporate clients.
By departing MongoDB, Desai forfeited a sign-on package from November 2025 that included a $2.5 million cash bonus split into two payments, along with $15 million in restricted stock. The equity grant was set to vest in eight quarterly tranches over two years, totaling 44,096 shares.
According to tax-withholding documents, only two tranches had vested β on 1 April and 1 July. The outstanding six tranches, valued at $11.25 million when granted, lapsed as soon as he resigned.
Desai also walked away from additional performance-linked stock. That $17.5 million grant required MDB's 60-day average closing price to be at least $375.
Further targets of $400, $475 and $600 would have unlocked bigger portions.
The initial tranche was scheduled to vest on 1 January 2027, provided Desai remained with the company. MongoDB's most recent quarterly filing indicates the stock had already met that condition, leaving 51,445 units in play.
Desai resigned three months before that payout was due.
His March 2026 annual grant of 34,832 shares brought another 32,655 unvested units. The second $1.25 million cash instalment, due after one year of service in November 2026, will never be paid.

One software commentator estimated Desai's forfeited compensation at roughly $25 million. In reality, the total could have been tens of millions higher, depending on MDB's future stock price and the value of his holdings at those later dates.
MongoDB's Investor Day is set to take place at 11:00 in New York today.
