MrBeast's Beast Industries signs multi-year deal with Google to feature Gemini AI in a survival challenge, but AI is not used for content creation.
Google has struck a multi-year deal with Beast Industries. Starting September 5, Jimmy Donaldson’s MrBeast videos will feature Gemini and Google Health.
During a survival challenge, Donaldson's team will use the AI assistant to get through jungle, desert, and Arctic terrain. Beast Industries CEO Jeff Housenbold described the partnership as a wager on AI functioning as both a creative driver and a business instrument.
As the first creator to exceed 500 million YouTube subscribers, Donaldson already operates a highly funded online video enterprise. The new agreement broadens his scope into Google's consumer AI initiative.
In the September 5 video, teams will compete across jungle, desert, and Arctic environments. Gemini will assist in identifying hazards and monitoring abrupt weather shifts.
Another Gemini advertising campaign will depict Donaldson utilizing the app to organize the logistics of his stunts. Google's new Fitbit Air will feature in a subsequent challenge.
Off camera, Housenbold offered a more restrained account of Gemini's function. When asked directly if AI powers the video production, he set a firm boundary.
“What we’re not doing is using it to make the content.”
According to Housenbold, Gemini instead aids research and feasibility tasks, such as determining how to execute stunts. All writing, filming, and editing remain human-driven. This is a more limited function than what Google's campaign messaging suggests.
This pattern mirrors how Google integrates AI into other consumer platforms, largely off-screen rather than in front of the camera. Housenbold refused to reveal financial details. He did confirm that Google CEO Sundar Pichai approved the partnership.
Currently, audiences will see Gemini's planning capabilities showcased within a survival narrative. That represents a more modest assertion than the creative collaboration Google's campaign portrays.
