Elon Musk sees SpaceX reaching an annual recurring revenue (ARR) run rate between $500 billion and $1 trillion by 2027. He voiced the target while speaking on the company's third-quarter webcast.

Musk also described a possible Tesla merger as a good idea. The significance of the latest numbers and comments is laid out below.

Musk Reacts to Surprise Q3 Results

ARR is the yearly value of recurring revenue, normally calculated by annualizing a current period.

The target Musk put forward spans $500 billion to $1 trillion by the end of 2027. The top end relies on compute capacity being expanded.

Elon Musk said during the @SpaceX Q3 earnings call that SpaceX could reach a $500 billion to $1 trillion annual recurring revenue run rate by the end of 2027.

That would be 5x to 10x growth in a single year, off a $100B+ run rate in 2026.

Special committees at SpaceX and Tesla, according to Musk, have started exploring a combination of the two companies. Calling himself a conflicted party, he added that he has not been involved in those discussions.

A deal would require approval from at least 50% of Tesla shareholders, a hurdle Musk described as high. A merged entity would put a value of roughly $2 trillion on SpaceX and $1.5 trillion on Tesla.

That would place the transaction among the largest on record. Musk cautioned, though, that no terms have been fixed and there is no assurance the deal will go through.

Is $1 Trillion Within SpaceX's Reach?

Third-quarter revenue at SpaceX came in at $14.6 billion, 161% higher than a year earlier and ahead of analyst forecasts. The company also recorded net income of $4.4 billion, after a $1.1 billion loss in the prior-year period.

Super Intelligence was the main growth engine, with revenue up 830% to $7.56 billion. Connectivity, driven mostly by Starlink, grew 69%, and capital expenditures came to $19.59 billion.

Even the lowest figure in the range would require a significant acceleration from today's quarterly revenue base. The key question for investors is whether demand can keep up.

SpaceX has just released its Q3 earnings results.

Highlights:
• Revenue: $14.58B (+161% YoY; vs. $12.7B est)
• Adjusted EBITDA: $8.81B (+306% YoY)

The scale of spending suggests the $1 trillion goal will be decided by execution more than aspiration. Quarterly results will show whether the strategy is progressing.

The performance is impressive, yet it represents only an initial step. The coming quarters will determine whether revenue expansion validates the money being spent.
