Elon Musk deems SpaceX-Tesla merger plausible but unlikely, demands 50% of shares
Elon Musk suggested a SpaceX-Tesla merger is a good idea but needs approval from half of all Tesla shares, while highlighting persistent demand for AI compute.
Technology stocks rebounded, with the Nasdaq Composite up 0.88% and the Nasdaq 100 up 1.11% while the Dow slipped 0.15%.
Semiconductors and AI are out in front
Last week saw the Dow industrial average rise just 0.67%, while the S&P 500 lost 1.95%, the Nasdaq Composite fell 4.48% and the Nasdaq 100 gave back 5.49%. Chip and AI names proved especially vulnerable.
That pattern has reversed in the current session. The Dow is off slightly while the wider market gauges are drawing bids:
Semiconductor and AI-related stocks are leading the bounce: SanDisk is up 6.54%, Intel has gained 4.41% and SK Hynix has advanced 4.10%.
The group took a heavy hit last week. CoreWeave fell roughly 25%, though it is currently 2.18% higher; SanDisk lost 17.9% and is up 6.54% today; Lam Research dropped 17.2% and is up 4.88% today; Western Digital declined 16.4% and is up 5.40% today. Micron fell 14.6% (up 4.16% today), Intel lost 14.2% (up 4.95% today) and AMD declined 13.0% (up 3.25% today). Nvidia, which held up better than those names, still ended 6.6% lower.
Those numbers frame today's bounce. Buyers are making an attempt, but the technical damage from last week has not been fully repaired. Reclaiming key moving averages and broken swing areas — and holding them — would give the rally a more bullish technical look.
Whether those gains can be extended is the next test for buyers.
The broad market sets the route
Individual stocks each have their own narrative. Earnings, company announcements and sector developments can all drive price moves. Still, the S&P 500, Nasdaq Composite and Nasdaq 100 give traders a wider view of market sentiment.
That context matters. Is your stock moving higher with the broader market behind it, or is it trying to rally while the main indices stay under pressure?
The same technical toolkit applies to both: moving averages, swing areas and retracement levels define the bias, the risk and the next targets. Looking at the major indices alongside a single stock makes the trading path easier to read.
Has today's rebound changed anything?
A higher price is a starting point, but where that price sits relative to key technical levels says more. Have the buyers retaken control? Are they testing resistance? Or, despite today's gains, do the sellers still have the stronger hand?
Buyers are pressing their case. How much ground they reclaim will show up on the technical levels, though last week's steep declines still need to be erased.
