NEAR Intents hit by $3.8M exploit days after Bitget fund freeze

Peter Todd has joined MARA Foundation as lead maintainer of Slipstream, its private Bitcoin mempool service.
Longtime Bitcoin developer Peter Todd has taken on the role of lead maintainer for Slipstream, the private mempool service operated by MARA Foundation.
The foundation announced on Thursday that Todd will oversee development and operation of the service.
Through Slipstream, users can send bitcoin transactions directly to MARA Pool, the company's mining pool, bypassing Bitcoin's public peer-to-peer network. The service proved valuable after hackers compromised Coldcard hardware wallets in July, stealing over $115 million in user funds.
Since Slipstream transactions remain private until confirmed in a block, the service hides key data before confirmation, protecting users' public keys from exposure.
"I most look forward to seeing what’s possible on Bitcoin — using Slipstream as a proving ground for experimental development and protocol innovation," Todd said.
Slipstream initially drew attention in 2024 for publishing large Ordinals inscriptions. More recently, it has been used for research projects such as Quantum Safe Bitcoin and Binohash, a method to emulate covenants without a soft fork.
Todd is a longtime Bitcoin Core contributor who co-authored BIP 125 (replace-by-fee), developed OpenTimestamps, and in 2024 released Libre Relay, a Bitcoin Core fork with relaxed relay rules for non-standard transactions.
He contends that mempool policy should align with what the market desires miners to mine, rather than limiting how Bitcoin is used.
