Trump to Launch AI Force, Announces Czar Criteria: High IQ Only

Donald Trump announced plans to create an AI Force and to appoint a czar for artificial intelligence. He pledged not to stand in the way of industry expansion.

The proposal was shared on Truth Social on Saturday, with the AI Force modeled after the Space Force. No budget, structure, or nominee for the czar position has been specified yet.

Trump Calls the AI Backlash a Hoax

Throughout September, Trump has contended that opposition to AI is orchestrated. During a phone call with Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang last week, he described concerns about AI dominance as a hoax.

The Saturday post extended that reasoning, placing the anti-AI movement on a list of what Trump labels hoaxes.

"Over the years, there have been many Hoaxes, all generated by the Radical Left Dumocrats, for purposes of destroying our Country. RUSSIA…UKRAINE…Global Warming, Impeachment Hoax #1, Impeachment Hoax #2, Men in Women’s Sports, Transgender for Everyone, and now, the decimation, or destruction, of AI, commonly known as Artificial Intelligence," he said.

Trump said the initial focus was on data centers, which lost momentum after communities witnessed increased pay, reduced taxes, and improved safety. He argued that critics then turned their attention to AI, similar to how "global warming" was replaced by "climate change" to expand the scope for uncertainty.

Trump had previously cautioned communities that declining data centers would leave them backward and impoverished. He then stated that AI might contribute up to 25% of US GDP and that America is ahead of China in developing it.

AI Force Gets a Space Force Template and a Czar Seat to Fill

Trump promised the government would support and protect the industry, not impede it. However, he indicated that authorities would monitor illegal activity, and that current criminal and civil laws are sufficient to address it.

The AI Force would serve this purpose. Trump cited Space Force, which he described as a major achievement from his first term, as the model, and stated that the czar would be announced shortly. He established a single requirement for the position.

"Only High I.Q. individuals need apply!" he wrote.

The czar position has been vacant since March, following David Sacks' departure from the White House AI and crypto role. Sacks continues to advise Trump as co-chair of the President's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology.

Lab Researchers Put Odds on the Risk Trump Calls a Hoax

In his post, Trump blamed Democrats for the pressure on AI. Yet the most emphatic recent alerts have originated from safety personnel within AI development labs.

Marcus Williams, part of OpenAI's Safety Oversight team, estimated a 70% probability of human extinction within three years absent regulation or a deliberate deceleration.

Bilal Chughtai resigned from Google DeepMind's AGI safety team, stating the technology could cause global death. Another researcher from Anthropic issued a comparable caution in early September.

No timeline for the czar announcement was provided by Trump. The selection will indicate the importance the White House places on researchers who currently urge a deceleration.
