John Healey, the UK's finance minister, has seemingly criticised Reform Party leader Nigel Farage for his Bitcoin usage.
During a speech on Monday, Healey described Farage, a pro-crypto MP, as "Liz Truss with a Bitcoin account."
Farage, at the helm of the rising Reform Party, has faced criticism over donations from crypto entrepreneurs. Truss, the shortest-serving UK prime minister, was widely condemned for her 2022 mini-budget that relied on debt.
"Nigel Farage — he wants you to think he's a man of the people," Healey said. "But when it comes to the economy, he's Lizz Truss with a Bitcoin account."
Healey added that his Labour Party would drive the UK forward "through fiscal discipline, through good work, through strong industries."
The remarks drew criticism from the Bitcoin community on X, with some questioning what a "Bitcoin account" actually means.
The Simply Bitcoin account posted on X: "Apparently 'Bitcoin account' is now a thing. Incredible stuff from one of the people running Britain."
Farage, a populist figure, has consistently supported crypto. Since 2020, he has portrayed Bitcoin as a matter of personal freedom and resistance to government monetary control.
Farage has additionally claimed that Coutts, a private British bank, closed his accounts, which sparked his increased interest in digital currencies.
At the Bitcoin 2025 Conference in Las Vegas last year, Farage said that if elected prime minister, he would cut crypto capital gains taxes and compel the Bank of England to create a Bitcoin reserve.
This year, Farage has faced scrutiny for accepting millions of dollars in crypto donations from Christopher Harborne, a tech entrepreneur and Tether investor, and Ben Delo, a co-founder of the now-defunct BitMEX exchange.
The Metropolitan Police have opened an inquiry into allegations that Reform Party violated rules on overseas donations. Reform has denied any misconduct and stated it will cooperate.
