US stocks mostly lower, Nasdaq 100 edges up

Major US stock indices ended lower except for the Nasdaq 100, which eked out a small gain.

The main US equity benchmarks finished in negative territory. The S&P 500 declined 0.33%, and the Nasdaq Composite dropped 0.12%.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average posted the steepest loss among the major indexes, dragged down by drops in Amazon (-2.50%), Honeywell (-1.79%) and Sherwin-Williams (-1.73%). Meanwhile, the Nasdaq 100 managed a marginal rise of 0.08%. The closing levels for the major indexes are listed below:

  • Dow Industrial Average: down 374.02 points, or 0.70%, closing at 53,191.33
  • S&P 500: down 25.60 points, or 0.33%, closing at 7,686.15
  • Nasdaq Composite: down 31.53 points, or 0.12%, closing at 26,370.89
  • Russell 2000: down 15.92 points, or 0.54%, closing at 2,956.45
  • Nasdaq 100: up 23.55 points, or 0.08%, closing at 29,456.97

Among the day's standout gainers were:

  • Roblox (RBLX): up 7.16% at $41.29
  • CrowdStrike (CRWD): up 5.77% at $231.00
  • Tesla (TSLA): up 5.51% at $367.95
  • SanDisk (SNDK): up 5.50% at $1,566.70
  • Strategy (MSTR): up 4.42% at $132.94

Some notable losers in the session were:

  • Celsius (CELH): down 4.64% at $31.45
  • Lyft (LYFT): down 4.52% at $16.90
  • Wynn Resorts (WYNN): down 4.18% at $91.28
  • Alibaba (BABA): down 4.10% at $114.02
  • Uber Technologies (UBER): down 4.02% at $75.65
  • Shopify (SHOP): down 3.62% at $147.37

The final readings could have been steeper. During the session, the Nasdaq Composite touched a low of -152.60 points, and the S&P 500 hit a low of -46.69 points. The Nasdaq 100 fell as much as 128.93 points before recovering to close up 23.55 points.
