XRP exchange reserves reached roughly 11.81 billion tokens, a level in the 99th percentile over the past twelve months, as tracked by CryptoQuant. This climb has stoked fresh unease about potential sell-offs.

Trading near $1.31, XRP's next direction hinges on whether exchange reserves are sold or withdrawn, data indicates.

Significance of Exchange Reserves for XRP

Exchange reserves represent cryptocurrency held in wallets belonging to trading platforms. A higher reserve generally means more tokens are available for immediate sale.

A steep climb in XRP exchange reserves, to around 11.81 billion tokens, was recently pointed out by CryptoQuant.

This increase coincided with a major leverage reset on Binance, with the key data listed below. This 99th percentile reading means reserves are at a twelve-month peak.

  • Per BeInCrypto data, XRP traded close to $1.30 after recovering from a recent low of about $1.25 to $1.29.
  • Open interest on Binance dropped roughly 15.8% to $453 million, with long liquidations reaching $25.7 million across October 7 and 8.
  • Funding rates were negative on multiple days, a sign that speculative long positions were closed out rather than renewed.
  • Binance's own XRP reserves sit at just the 30th percentile, suggesting the overall climb is driven by holdings on other exchanges.

In the course of the leverage reset, XRP slid from about $1.52 to $1.29 and then steadied. Elevated balances enlarge the quantity available for sale into the market. This has historically increased the risk of short-term price swings or trading within a narrow range.

Total reserves at high levels represent a potential overhang, yet they do not automatically bring about further price declines. The aggregate figure must thus be evaluated cautiously, in conjunction with derivatives data.

Might Mounting Reserves Lead to a More Pronounced XRP Sell-Off?

The crucial question is whether the tokens are sold off or shifted into private wallets and cold storage. Withdrawing them would shrink the available supply, whereas depositing them would increase it.

Historical patterns show that leverage resets have often preceded a period of steadier price action once the supply is absorbed.

Demand from institutions could counteract the surplus supply. Past inflows into spot ETFs and significant treasury positions are elements worth monitoring.

Large holders continue to offer an important balancing effect. If net outflows from exchanges were to resume, that scenario would be reinforced.

On-chain analysts are cautiously optimistic. Analyst Ali Martinez noted a spike in XRP Ledger transactional volume close to the $1.25 support level, which could point to a floor being established.

A firm settlement above $1.56 could potentially unlock a move toward $2, whereas a drop under $1.25 would point toward $1.00.

Validation of the pattern would suggest the next upward phase is forming. Market participants should also observe whether XRP maintains its current trading range before reaching definitive conclusions.

The forthcoming exchange reserve data will indicate whether the figures continue to climb or begin to decline.
