As Crypto Markets Shift, XT Exchange Rethinks Its Role After Eight Years

XT Exchange examines how its account functions must evolve as crypto prices and on-chain activity diverge.

In 2026, a split emerged between crypto prices and on-chain activity. For XT Exchange, now eight years old, this divergence prompts fresh thinking about what users expect from a trading account and how the platform needs to evolve.

The crypto market's total capitalisation dropped by about half during the 2026 downturn. On-chain economic activity slipped just 1.6%, according to Chainalysis's 2026 Global Crypto Adoption Index. The report noted this contrasted with the 2022-23 period, when a smaller price decline coincided with a 23% drop in activity.

The split indicates that certain crypto uses are becoming less dependent on market prices. Someone sending funds internationally, settling a transaction, or keeping a stablecoin balance may remain active even during a bear market. For exchanges, this raises the question of what an account offers when the lure of rising prices alone no longer attracts users.

XT Exchange launched in 2018, a time when an exchange's main concerns revolved around which assets were available, the trading spread, and whether withdrawals worked. Those basics still underpin the service. Over the years, additional account functions have emerged. A platform that supports payments or prediction markets must now figure out how those features coexist with trading and how to clarify the distinctions between them. The same account must serve people approaching it with different goals.

Spot bitcoin exchange-traded products started trading on US exchanges in January 2024, putting bitcoin exposure within reach of conventional brokerage accounts. Investors could access the asset through financial institutions they already knew. Crypto exchanges now competed alongside that channel, giving them more reason to think about the expectations users bring from other financial services.

Stablecoins further expanded the role of the account. A balance used to settle trades could also be held, transferred, or spent. Users employing it for cross-border payments or savings had different priorities from those seeking a trading position. The exchange still needed to run a marketplace, while also considering how a balance could be useful beyond its own platform.

XT Exchange's new products in 2026 show how those possibilities are reshaping its offering. The platform added tokenized equity products to its spot market in January. It launched a prediction-market venue in May, followed by USDT-margined perpetual futures referencing US-listed companies in July. Beyond spot and margin trading, XT Pay allows eligible users in supported markets to make payments from a USDT balance.

Supporting that variety of uses requires more than adding another instrument. A prediction market depends on a resolution process outside the exchange, so settlement hinges on how the outcome is determined. A payment product involves providers and local networks, tying an exchange balance to a merchant's payment infrastructure. Those relationships become part of the platform's responsibilities. For users, the relevant questions also grow more specific: who decides an event's outcome, what happens upon resolution, and how a merchant payment completes. Offering the feature means explaining those arrangements.

Equity-linked derivatives bring another obligation: clarifying what position the user is taking. Exposure to a company's share price does not mean owning its shares. Making that distinction clear sits alongside the routine work of processing trades and withdrawals. As the product set expands, the exchange has more types of information to communicate and more services to run.

Arman Achmed, COO of XT Exchange, states the operating principle bluntly: “Don’t assume the next cycle will reward what worked in the last one — stay curious, keep learning, and be ready to change your mind.”

That principle sums up what eight years provide. Experience does not make the next market predictable. But it does give a platform a sharper sense of which decisions held up, which needs persisted through a downturn, and where the next questions are likely to arise. The 2026 divergence confirmed the trend: the activity that remained was tied to a purpose, and purpose does not vanish when charts turn lower.

For an exchange heading into its ninth year, relevance is not something a bull market grants and a downturn takes away. It comes from continuing to answer the question users are actually asking, and from being prepared for that question to shift again in 2027. XT Exchange has spent eight years treating that as an ongoing challenge. That habit is what it carries into its ninth year.
