Ethereum hovers near technical supports as macro headwinds persist
Ethereum is consolidating near major technical levels as adverse macro conditions and upcoming US PMI data set the tone for the week.
US spot Bitcoin ETFs brought in $526.6M on Oct. 19, their largest daily intake since Sept. 22. IBIT led the day while Ethereum and Solana funds saw outflows.
Monday, October 19 brought $526.6 million in net inflows to US spot Bitcoin (BTC) exchange-traded funds (ETFs), their largest one-day intake since the $714.75 million recorded on September 22.
That intake followed a sluggish opening stretch for the month. Bitcoin ETFs had seen October net outflows of $617.17 million prior to Monday, leaving the month-to-date figure at $90.57 million after the one-day gain.
SoSoValue data shows BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) was the sole Bitcoin fund in net inflow territory. None of the remaining 11 funds had net inflows in that session.
Monday also more than wiped out the $163.18 million net outflow that Bitcoin ETFs had registered between October 13 and 16.
Beyond Bitcoin, crypto ETFs went the other way on Monday. Ethereum (ETH) funds gave back $103.28 million, while Solana (SOL) products fell $6.72 million.
The ETH outflows stretch an already long streak. Those products have seen net outflows on 14 of the past 15 trading days, for a combined $1.12 billion.
The Monday inflows came after a week when Bitcoin outperformed US tech stocks. Ash Crypto, an analyst, said BTC ended that week down roughly 2% and kept the $80,000 support level.
Over that same stretch, the Nasdaq slid 5%, while the semiconductor index lost more than 11%.
Month to date, BTC is 1.75% lower since October 1. That retreat comes after a 42.71% jump in the third quarter. According to BeInCrypto Markets data, Bitcoin was trading at $82,060 at press time, 0.44% lower over the preceding 24 hours.
That has put Bitcoin back above the ETF cost basis — roughly $81,500 per Glassnode — after the price slipped below it last week. The level represents the average price US spot ETFs paid for their holdings.
Ash Crypto also flagged that BTC has finished above its 50-week moving average five weeks in a row. That moving average is near $76,100, and in the analyst’s view the bull run stays valid so long as price remains above it.
For support, Ash Crypto points to $80,000 and $76,000. Glassnode data referenced in BeInCrypto’s analysis last week put the largest Binance spot bid block at $80,000.
On the upside, Ash Crypto is monitoring $84,000 and $87,500. Glassnode pegged $88,000 as the cost basis for buyers who have held between six and 12 months.
According to Glassnode, a daily close above $88,000 together with renewed ETF inflows would show buyers absorbing that supply. Monday’s IBIT-led session addresses one part of that second condition.
