Last month's shortfall of $432 billion came close to a monthly record; however, a large portion of that expenditure appears to have been shifted from August, given the improvement in the most recent month.

  • The year-to-date fiscal deficit stands at $1.966 trillion, compared with $1.973 trillion in the same period a year earlier.
  • Outlays reached $527 billion, down from $689 billion a year ago.
  • Receipts totaled $360 billion, rising from $344 billion a year earlier.
  • Net customs receipts were $12.836 billion.

This figure might ease some of the pressure on Treasuries, though the month-to-month data is hard to interpret due to shifting spending patterns.
