Bitcoin nears technical level as Binance breach reports stir uncertainty

Bitcoin falls to $76,172, close to its 100-day moving average, after reports of a $6.3B Binance breach unsettle the market.

Bitcoin has fallen to new session lows, putting its 100-day moving average of $76,139 in the spotlight. The price touched $76,172, a mere $33 above this technical marker that could shape the next move.

Sentiment has been shaken by reports of an alleged security breach at Binance. The account in circulation describes $6.3B in assets being drained from wallets across multiple blockchains over a 20-minute period on Thursday, stoking worries about customer funds, exchange safety, and possible spillover throughout the cryptocurrency ecosystem. North Korea is being blamed for the breach.

Security scares can put additional pressure on prices when leveraged positions are involved. Falling price levels trigger margin calls and forced liquidations, which can prompt more selling. That process can magnify the initial response as traders cut exposure and await clarity.

The broader backdrop remains challenging as well, with inflation risks, growth concerns, and geopolitical tensions weighing on risk appetite.

The 100-day moving average becomes the immediate barometer.

Technically, the key question for Bitcoin traders is whether buyers can protect the 100-day moving average at $76,139.

The session low gives buyers a clearly marked level to defend, with close risk if it fails. Staying above the moving average could offer a chance for a corrective bounce, but buyers still need to show follow-up that selling pressure is easing.

Conversely, a sustained break below $76,139 would weaken that defense and give sellers another technical reason to press lower. The September low at $74,925 would be the next target, then the 200-day moving average at $73,112 and the 50% midpoint of the rise from the end-of-June low at $72,554.

The news is generating uncertainty. The technicals give traders a reference to define their position and manage risk. Stay above and buyers are still in play. Drop below and sellers maintain control.
