Canada's Q2 GDP annualized rate misses forecast at 3.3%

Canada's second-quarter GDP grew at a 3.3% annualized rate, below expectations of 3.4%. June monthly GDP rose 0.3%.

  • Canada's gross domestic product expanded at a 3.3% annualized rate in the second quarter, falling short of the 3.4% that analysts had anticipated.
  • The implicit price index increased by 2.5% quarter over quarter, up from a 1.2% rise in the preceding three-month period.
  • On a monthly basis, June GDP rose 0.3%, surpassing the 0.2% forecast. The previous month's reading was also 0.3%.
  • A preliminary estimate for July points to flat month-over-month growth at 0.0%.

Growth remained robust. The USDCAD pair is fluctuating in a narrow band. It holds above the 200-hour moving average at 1.3838 and the 200-day moving average at 1.38422, while trading below the 100-hour moving average at 1.3856.
