Berkshire lifts Sirius XM stake by $27m as money shifts to value
Berkshire Hathaway spent about $27 million on Sirius XM shares, lifting its stake to roughly 37% of the company as investors shift toward value stocks.
Anthropic's amended IPO filing shows a $567 million Q3 operating loss, revenue of $16.96 billion and $895.4 billion in compute commitments.
Anthropic posted a $567 million operating loss for Q3, a reversal from the $974 million operating profit it recorded in Q2. The maker of Claude disclosed the swing in an amended filing for its initial public offering (IPO).
Sales continued to climb, yet the increase lagged the rise in costs. Here are five figures from the filing that investors will consider ahead of the listing.
Revenue for the third quarter came in at $16.96 billion, the amended filing shows. Even so, growth from the prior quarter decelerated markedly to 46.7%, compared with 144.2% in Q2.
Following an October investor day that revealed the deceleration, some investors reportedly talked about a valuation for Anthropic of roughly $1.5 trillion, lower than the earlier $2 trillion.
Price reductions on models and discounts written into contracts cut about $600 million from the revenue added in Q3. Operating expenses climbed $6.94 billion, more than the $5.40 billion increase in revenue.
Of the $6.94 billion increase in costs, $4.31 billion came from compute and infrastructure. That line climbed to $9.86 billion from $5.56 billion, up 77.5%.
Every dollar of revenue now carries 58 cents of compute expense, versus 48 cents before. According to the filing, one component of that compute bill accounts for much of the quarterly loss.
Two items are named in the filing as the main drivers of the loss. One is $5.0 billion of compute held under short-term commitments, which today costs considerably more than similar capacity available through its multi-year agreements. The other is $2.0 billion of non-cash donation-matching charges.
Adjusted operating income — a figure that strips out stock-based pay and donation charges — increased to $2.46 billion from $2.24 billion. The adjusted margin, though, fell to 15% from 19%, something the filing attributes to short-term compute.
Beneath the operating line, the loss is considerably larger.
The company's net loss for Q3 came to $23.29 billion, narrower than the $66.31 billion recorded in Q2. Fair-value changes on convertible notes and related instruments produced $21.94 billion of that total, or 94.2%.
The filing connects those charges to the company's valuation increase during the year. They are backward-looking, whereas its compute contracts lock up cash well into the future.
Its commitments, almost entirely for compute and infrastructure, add up to roughly $895.4 billion. Some $69.8 billion becomes due inside 12 months, close to twice the $35.28 billion of revenue booked across the past 4 quarters.
At a $1.5 trillion valuation, as reported, the multiple would be 42.5 times that trailing revenue. The earlier $2 trillion figure works out to 56.7 times.
Brett Winton of ARK Invest contends that compute capacity worldwide falls short of what AI demand requires.
“Ultimately, cash flow will tell, but the evidence suggests that, provided with compute, the frontier lab companies will be good for the bill,” Winton wrote.
A rebound has happened before: growth went from 48% in Q4 2025 to 132% in Q1 2026 following the Opus 4.5 launch. Whether the 46.7% in Q3 proves a trend or merely a pause will shape what investors pay in the Anthropic IPO.
