On Sunday, McDonald's India removed a series of posts from its verified X (Twitter) profile. The posts, written in the first person, said an unpaid intern was owed ₹60,000 and then went on to promote a meme coin.

The episode hit at a rough moment for the shares. McDonald's Corporation (MCD) finished Friday at $255.69, its lowest close in a year. Wall Street, however, has not turned bearish.

Inside the McDonald's India Episode

According to the account, the writer had interned at McDonald's India and looked after several of the company's Asian social media channels. It pointed to a manager named Amit Joshi and said no pay had arrived since December 2025.

A subsequent post shifted that date to May, a discrepancy that sowed doubt. Another put the total owed at more than ₹60,000, about $650. One message said meme coin trading losses had left the writer going hungry every day.

The final posts promoted a token, shared crypto wallet addresses, and then noted that fees had been claimed. McDonald's India took the thread down and replied with a meme of a dog holding a phone.

McD admin right now: If only our actual posts went this viral…” McDonald's India wrote from its official X account.

No one named Amit Joshi appears in the operator's public leadership. The company has not said whether the account was breached.

Similar takeovers affected the Robinhood CEO's X account in July and the Saudi Law Conference account last year.

Wall Street's MCD Target Points to 24% Upside

Separately, TipRanks has 24 analysts covering MCD stock over the last three months. The group includes 14 buys, 10 holds and no sells.

The average 12-month target is $317.18, about 24% above Friday's close. The high estimate reaches $390. Even the low, $280, sits above where the shares currently trade.

MCD peaked near $340 in March and has set lower highs every month since April. The Friday session by itself cut the week by another 3.5%.

Fundamentals sit in the middle: the company posted diluted per-share earnings of $3.32 for the second quarter, a 6% rise, while comparable sales worldwide were up 1.3%.

The 24% gap between price and target existed before Sunday's incident.
