OpenAI and Anthropic Roll Out Cheaper AI Models Amid Slowdown Debate
Anthropic launched Opus 5.5 and OpenAI introduced GPT-6 Sol and Luna, both at lower prices, following their CEOs' calls to slow AI development.
Meta shares surged over 10% to near $735 as enthusiasm over new AI assistant Muse drove a breakout above key resistance levels.
Meta's stock climbed more than 10% on Tuesday, changing hands near $734.00, as investor excitement grew over the swift uptake of the company's new artificial intelligence assistant, Muse.
Several factors are fueling the rally:
The larger narrative is that the initial success of Muse is reshaping how the market perceives Meta's forecasted $130–$145 billion in capital expenditures for 2026. What was once seen primarily as a costly AI wager is now being regarded as a possible new avenue for growth.
A September 11 article titled "Meta stock surges on Muse AI launch—but can it break key resistance?" highlighted a key technical obstacle on the price chart and included the following observation:
"If the price can break above the trendline—and stay above it—the technical bias would shift more firmly in the buyers’ favor. That should open the door for additional upside momentum toward the July high near $685, followed by the 61.8% retracement near $690."
So, what transpired?
Meta's stock broke above the trendline on Tuesday and ended the session above it. That move tilted the technical stance more decisively toward the bulls and paved the way for further gains.
During Wednesday and Friday, the share price advanced into the anticipated resistance region of $685–$690. Sellers pushed back against that zone on both days, underscoring its significance.
Meta ended Friday at $670.51 after probing the lower side of the breached trendline intraday. Buyers emerged around that technical area, offering support. This was an encouraging sign: the former resistance line was starting to function as support.
On Tuesday, shares opened at $680 and quickly climbed. After a clear break above the $685–$690 resistance band, buyers flooded in and the upward momentum intensified.
The advance has lifted the stock to a high of $741.30 thus far, with the shares now changing hands near $740.64, slightly off the peak.
What lies ahead?
The next significant objective is the 2026 peak of $744.97.
A move above that point would unlock further swing highs from 2025, starting at $759.66. Beyond that, the record highs of $790.80 and $796.25 would come into view as longer-term goals.
The sequence of upward objectives is as follows:
To the downside, the previous resistance band of $685–$690 has become the critical threshold.
This region ought to provide support if the bullish breakout is genuine. So long as Meta holds above $685–$690, buyers retain command and can pursue additional gains.
Some hesitation might emerge near $744.97 or $759.66. Both levels could invite profit-taking and produce more volatile, two-sided trading. Nonetheless, unless the stock retreats below $685–$690, any decline would be seen as a pullback inside the larger uptrend.
The technical plan unfolded according to expectations: breach the trendline, aim for $685–$690, and then look for buyers to seize increased control once a lasting break above that zone occurred.
That is exactly what happened, and bulls are now pushing toward the next important levels.
Technical lesson: The reason former resistance can turn into support
This price behavior illustrates how technical levels can assist traders in determining market sentiment and controlling exposure.
The $685–$690 band originally served as resistance because sellers frequently stepped in at that level. Once the stock decisively moved above that range, its function shifted. Previous resistance can evolve into support when traders who sat out the first breakout seek to purchase a dip.
That does not ensure further upside. Technical analysis does not offer certainties. Rather, it focuses on pinpointing areas where buyers and sellers are most likely to make their next move.
Here, remaining above $685–$690 maintains buyers' dominance and lets traders concentrate on the next upward objectives of $744.97 and $759.66. A decline back under $685–$690 would undermine the breakout and signal that buying pressure may be fading.
The takeaway for traders is simple: recognize the crucial level, await the breakout, and then monitor whether the market can remain above it. The breakout provides the setup, but holding the breached level verifies that buyers are still in charge.
This is how technical levels can define sentiment, set objectives, and—most crucially—offer traders a distinct zone for risk management.
