Participating in Nacha's Payments Innovation Alliance Fall Meeting was the Digital Sovereignty Alliance (DSA), a nonprofit working to advance ethical public policy, research and education on emerging technologies. DSA Senior Policy Advisor Molly Woodman attended alongside industry leaders to discuss emerging technology, regulatory developments and the future of domestic and global payments.
The three-day gathering took place from October 14 to 16 at the InterContinental Chicago Magnificent Mile in Chicago, Illinois. It brought together participants from the financial services and payments sectors to share insights, tackle operational hurdles and look for innovation opportunities. Talks centred on changing payment technologies, regulatory issues and practical ways to handle a more complicated financial environment.
Woodman helped lead discussions around the newly formed Next-Gen Currency Project Team, a joint effort by Nacha and DSA that is part of the Alliance’s ongoing work. The team looks at how digital assets like stablecoins and tokenized deposits are used globally for moving money. Its efforts centre on creating tools that connect digital assets with traditional payment systems, following regulatory changes, pinpointing operational effects and offering educational materials for the payments sector.
During the event, attendees also looked at real-world problems financial institutions encounter as new technologies transform payment systems. Subjects covered included what financial institutions should expect for agentic payments, how dependable multifactor authentication is as technology advances, and new ways to handle Know Your Agent (KYA) frameworks. The talks stressed the value of industry teamwork in dealing with operational unknowns and crafting practical answers while regulatory structures keep changing.
“It’s been encouraging to watch financial institutions brainstorm together on how to build some continuity in areas where regulation hasn’t caught up yet,” said Molly Woodman, Senior Policy Advisor at DSA.
The DSA's involvement shows its continued dedication to fostering informed policy conversations and cooperation across financial services and emerging technology fields. By taking part in the Next-Gen Currency Project Team and wider industry activities, DSA aims to promote methods that encourage responsible innovation, regulatory clarity and the inclusion of new technologies into the shifting payments environment.
