Nasdaq-100 futures pull back to the 31,480 support zone, with the broader uptrend intact but short-term pressure bearish.
Nasdaq-100 futures are pulling back toward support, though the broader uptrend has not been compromised.
After a solid rally over several sessions, Nasdaq-100 futures are shedding short-term momentum. The current decline does not yet constitute a full bearish reversal. The critical test lies at the 31,480-31,500 zone. Defending that area preserves the broader bullish framework, but a clean break followed by a failed recovery would strengthen the bearish argument.
This distinction is key: a market can remain bullish over multiple sessions even if sellers dominate the next move temporarily.
NQ has lost strength, but sellers have not seized complete command.
The recent price sequence has turned less favorable for buyers.
Following a strong run, NQ has begun forming lower highs and lower closes. That represents a significant short-term deterioration and cautions against expecting every dip to be bought up quickly.
Yet there is an important offset.
Earlier in the session, NQ dropped sharply toward 31,500 before staging a strong recovery. Sellers managed to drive price down, but they could not sustain that pressure initially.
That failed bearish effort is significant. Selling pressure is more meaningful when it leads to sustained price movement rather than a temporary dip that buyers soon reverse.
The current decline warrants closer scrutiny because it has lasted longer. Nonetheless, the key support zone around 31,480-31,455 has not been decisively breached.
For the moment, NQ remains in a developing short-term bearish rotation within a broader structure that remains bullish.
Key Nasdaq futures levels to monitor
Instead of viewing each level as a definitive buy or sell trigger, traders can observe NQ's behavior once these areas are reached.
31,597-31,616: The zone of the recent highs
A sustained break above this zone would indicate that buyers have reclaimed control and could open the door to further upside.
31,563-31,595: The primary recovery area
This zone helps gauge whether the current pullback is being corrected. Recapturing and holding it would significantly diminish the near-term bearish outlook.
31,500-31,515: Initial support
This marks the first test of whether buyers still defend the recent gain.
31,478-31,495: The key decision zone
This is the most critical nearby level. Holding it would favor stabilization, while a break and failed recovery would provide sellers with much stronger confirmation.
31,440-31,458: Secondary support
Losing this area after a failure at 31,480 would imply the pullback is deepening beyond routine short-term weakness.
31,393-31,428: Deeper intraday support
This level gains relevance if buyers fail to reclaim the higher support zones.
31,337-31,371: Broader breakout support
A sustained breakdown below this area would threaten a larger part of the recent bullish move.
The term 'sustained' is key. A market may temporarily dip below support and snap back, which is very different from a clean break that stays below and rejects attempts to reclaim.
Primary scenario: a test of the 31,500-31,480 range
The most relevant short-term question is whether NQ can stabilize around 31,500-31,480.
A dip into that range does not alone confirm a bearish shift. In fact, a failed breakdown followed by a recovery would offer stronger buyer evidence than a simple touch and bounce.
If buyers defend the zone successfully, focus could shift back to 31,563-31,595 and then the recent highs near 31,600.
Traders considering long positions may gain more from waiting for evidence of a failed breakdown rather than assuming support will hold just because price has arrived there.
That principle is particularly valuable when markets are near record highs.
What would strengthen the bearish case?
The bearish view gains much more credibility if three steps occur in order:
That would direct attention to 31,393-31,428 and possibly 31,337-31,371 if selling persists.
This sequence is more important than a single down candle because it would indicate that a zone once defended by buyers is starting to function as resistance.
That would signal a true shift in short-term control.
What would restore the bullish outlook?
The first step would be a recovery above approximately 31,545-31,550.
A more robust signal would be recapturing and holding 31,563-31,595. If that occurs, the current decline would look more like a routine consolidation within the broader uptrend than the beginning of a larger reversal.
A sustained move above 31,597-31,616 would then bring the recent highs back into view.
I am also watching for a possible retest around NQ 31,460.
Nasdaq-100 futures have pulled back after reaching a fresh high, with 31,460 becoming the next key test.
Nasdaq 100 E-mini futures are still in a rising short-term structure, but the recent action has moved from a breakout to a retest pattern.
NQ climbed to a fresh peak just above 31,616 before sellers stepped in. The resulting decline has brought price back toward 31,500, making the area around 31,460 the most relevant near-term decision zone. What matters is not just whether price hits 31,460, but how it reacts once there.
The climb to the high was backed by a series of higher highs and higher lows. Based on hourly data, price moved higher from about 31,400 through 31,500 and eventually above 31,600. The first hourly pullback after the peak touched approximately 31,516 and settled near 31,530, meaning 31,460 had not been tested on a completed hourly bar by the snapshot cutoff.
That yields two practical scenarios. If 31,460 draws buyers and NQ moves higher, the pullback would resemble a retest of the recent breakout rather than a breakdown. A recovery through about 31,570-31,615 would then put the high in play again.
Conversely, a conclusive drop below 31,460, especially if a subsequent recovery fails near that zone, would damage the short-term bullish structure. In that scenario, the next wider support to watch is around 31,300-31,310.
This distinction is important because an uptrend does not require constant new highs. A pullback can offer more information than the breakout: holding a prior breakout level shows buyers are still willing to defend elevated prices, while losing it and failing to recover it indicates a shift in balance.
It is also important to distinguish between a test that is just a touch and one that indicates acceptance.
Why Treasury yields remain worth monitoring
Technical levels do not stand alone.
Interest rates are especially important for technology-heavy indexes, as higher bond yields can affect the valuation of long-duration growth companies. For instance, a recent US Treasury auction placed $58 billion of three-year notes at a yield of 4.932%.
That does not imply one auction caused this NQ pullback. However, it does mean traders monitoring Nasdaq futures should watch whether bond yields align with or contradict the technical backdrop.
There is another layer to Nasdaq sensitivity: the index has heavy exposure to semiconductor and AI-related stocks. These names do not always respond to the same catalyst uniformly.
The larger picture is still bullish for now
The current drop is still modest relative to the rally that came before it.
That argues against calling a major top solely on the basis of weakening short-term momentum. However, the recent price action no longer shows buyers in clear command.
The most helpful interpretation is thus:
The broader structure remains bullish.
Near-term pressure is bearish.
Key decision area: 31,480-31,500
A successful defense followed by a move back through 31,563-31,595 would confirm the bullish view.
A break below 31,478, a failed recovery, and then a loss of 31,440-31,458 would favor a deeper correction.
A sustained loss of 31,337-31,371 would be significantly more damaging to the broader bullish thesis.
For the time being, the support test will offer more clues than attempting to forecast the next major move in advance.
