Trezor says CryptoBilis wallet in Malaysia contained spyware implant
Trezor says a spyware implant was found in a Safe 5 wallet sold by Malaysian reseller CryptoBilis, and urges buyers to move their funds.
Bitcoin broke below its $79,146 floor, falling to $76,320 as sellers took control. Support is now between $76,052 and $76,146.
Bitcoin has tracked the risk-off sentiment that also pulled down US and European equities. A break below the consolidation range that had held since October 22 served as a technical trigger for the move.
The range ran from a floor of $79,146 to a ceiling of $81,930. Sellers broke through the lower boundary in the past 24 hours, generating bearish momentum that took the price down to $76,320.
This breakdown has strengthened the sellers' hand. The market is now watching to see if they can push through the next support level.
Dip buyers identify support for a low-risk entry
The decline stalled roughly $174 above the 100-day moving average, which currently sits at $76,146. The 38.2% retracement of the rally from the late-June low stands at $76,052, just below that average.
These two levels form a support zone spanning $76,052 to $76,146.
The convergence of two technical indicators gives traders a defined area for assessing the next move. Buyers can enter near this support with capped risk, as long as they are ready to exit if the price breaks and sustains a move below it.
This does not assure a durable floor. It simply offers a zone where buyers can evaluate potential reward against a set risk.
An initial bounce took bitcoin to $78,559, but buyers failed to hold the recovery. The price has since drifted back toward $77,208, maintaining attention on the support zone.
Broken floor now acts as upside benchmark
Defending support is just the starting point for buyers. They must also take back lost resistance levels.
The critical level is $79,146, the old lower bound of the range. Once support is broken, that level frequently becomes resistance as sellers push against it and buyers who are trapped use a rally to get out.
As long as bitcoin trades below $79,146, sellers maintain the edge gained from the breakdown. A sustained move above that level would introduce the possibility that the breakdown has failed.
Such a development would concern sellers seeking more downside and would bring the old range's upper boundary at $81,930 back into play.
Before that, the $78,559 bounce high gives an intermediate upside test.
Sellers aim to push below the support cluster
For sellers, the goal is well defined: break under the 100-day moving average of $76,146 and the 38.2% retracement of $76,052, and then hold the price beneath the zone.
Within a broader uptrend, the 38.2% retracement serves as a key measure of a pullback. Staying above it keeps the dip relatively moderate. A break below it would bolster the argument that a larger decline is underway.
A short-lived dip below support with a swift recovery would be less meaningful. Sellers require a sustained period under the zone to confirm the next bearish move has real momentum.
Use the technical levels as risk guides
Geopolitical tensions, inflation fears, growth worries, and declining equity markets paint a clear bearish picture. Technically, the move below the 100- and 200-hour moving averages and then the range support reinforces that narrative.
Still, a bearish thesis requires a defined risk point.
For sellers, the level to watch on the top side is $79,146. A sustained move above it would mitigate the breakdown.
For buyers, the critical support zone is $76,052 to $76,146. A solid break under these levels would remove the rationale for buying at this confluence.
The technical positions are set. Sellers hold sway below the former floor, while buyers have a specific support area where they can look to slow or turn the decline.
