Bitcoin Defies September Slump, Faces Demand Test in October
Bitcoin ended September up 6.33%, but demand from ETF buyers has faded and long-term holders are selling, testing the October outlook.
Strategy's weekly bitcoin purchase jumped 75% to 1,666 BTC, with total holdings reaching 847,666 BTC, the largest among public companies.
Strategy, previously named MicroStrategy, purchased 1,666 bitcoin in its latest weekly buy. It now possesses 847,666 BTC, the largest holdings of any publicly traded company.
The Nasdaq-listed software developer has turned itself into a bitcoin treasury firm. It usually discloses its bitcoin acquisitions to U.S. regulators each Monday.
This latest acquisition is roughly 75% larger than the one before it. On the prior Monday, Strategy disclosed buying 950 BTC for about $76 million, bringing its total to 846,000 coins.
Strategy has acquired 1,665 $BTC and repurchased $152M of $STRC. As of 9/27/26, we hold 847,666 BTC and $6.02B of USD Assets. $MSTRhttps://t.co/PR1Fv9XFoG

Earlier, on August 31, Strategy concluded a 10-week hiatus by purchasing 4,603 BTC. The following week saw no acquisitions at all.
According to BeInCrypto data, Bitcoin is trading around $83,251, a 2.3% decline over the past day. At that price, the 1,666 coins are valued at roughly $138.7 million.
Michael Saylor, the company's executive chairman, hinted at the purchase on Sunday. He posted a chart showing Strategy's buying history, with each purchase represented by an orange dot, and captioned it "Even more orange."
BeInCrypto covered Saylor's signal that same evening and noted that Monday's regulatory filing would confirm any new acquisition. The previous week, his "A little more orange" post similarly appeared one day ahead of the 950 BTC buy.
Strategy's buying pattern has been inconsistent this year. Its records show four sales from June 30 to August 10, totaling 6,916 BTC. Last week, it also spent $174 million on a preferred stock buyback, more than twice what it spent on bitcoin.
As of last week, Strategy's average cost per bitcoin was approximately $75,400. The current market price is about 10% above that level.
The filing due next Monday will reveal whether this week's larger purchase signals a steadier pace or remains a one-time event.
