President Donald Trump's portfolio offloaded Strategy (the former MicroStrategy) shares during June and the start of July. A few weeks afterward, the accounts repurchased the stock, which has subsequently risen close to 83%.

An ethics disclosure submitted on September 22 to the government details the repurchase. As the biggest corporate Bitcoin holder, Strategy's stock generally moves in tandem with the leading cryptocurrency.

The Sequence of Trump's Stock Sales and Buybacks

The divestments began in June. The portfolios disposed of Strategy stock on June 23 and June 24, with a total value between $16,002 and $65,000. Two days after that, the shares touched an intraday low of $81.81, the summer's nadir.

Per Bitcoin Treasuries, the latest Office of Government Ethics filing encompasses 1,156 transactions from July. It reveals an additional Strategy sale valued at $1,001 to $15,000, executed on July 8.

Subsequently, purchases commenced. On July 24, the accounts acquired stock worth $1,001 to $15,000, and on July 27, they bought between $50,001 and $100,000. The disclosure reports dollar brackets, not specific share numbers or prices.

Based on StockAnalysis, Strategy's closing price on July 24 was $91.67, rising to $167.33 by September 22. This represents the 83% increase noted by Quiver Quantitative, a firm that monitors political trades.

The more substantial July 27 acquisition, executed at a closing price of $98.65, has gained roughly 70%.

What Made Strategy Stock Cheap in July

During July, Strategy paused its Bitcoin purchases. The company held 843,775 BTC while it issued additional shares to generate funds.

Investor enthusiasm also waned. According to Strategy's own figures, daily trading volume averaged $1.7 billion in July, the lowest of 2026. That volume recovered to $3.6 billion by September.

Bitcoin has since rebounded to approximately $86,423 per coin. MicroStrategy has recommenced acquisitions and possessed 846,000 BTC as of September 21.

Who Was Responsible for the Trades

The Trump Organization states that external firms handle the accounts.

“Neither President Trump, his family, nor The Trump Organization plays any role in selecting, directing, or approving specific investments,” CBS noted, based on information from the Trump Organization.

The Strategy purchases are modest compared to the month's overall trading volume of $79 million to $270 million. Nevertheless, Senator Elizabeth Warren and Representative Robert Garcia raised concerns about the timing of Trump's trades in a letter sent in August.

The disclosure does not indicate if the accounts continue to own the shares. The subsequent filing, covering August, is yet to be released.
