Axios reported that President Donald Trump is set to hold a private dinner at the White House on Sunday evening with Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei. The encounter comes two days after a federal court ruled in favor of the Pentagon in its dispute with Anthropic.
Anthropic, the San Francisco firm that developed Claude, a prominent AI chatbot in the U.S., will have its CEO meet Trump for the first time in a one-on-one setting.
Back in March, the Defense Department designated Anthropic as a “supply chain risk,” effectively barring it from defense contracts.
According to the Pentagon, Claude's inbuilt restrictions and a lingering contractual disagreement rendered it potentially unsuitable for military use. Anthropic had declined to enable Claude for lethal autonomous weapons or mass surveillance of U.S. citizens.
The US Court of Appeals for the DC Circuit confirmed the designation on Friday by a 2-1 margin. The judge in the minority contended that the law does not regard “a contractor’s honest and upfront enforcement of restrictions” as a valid basis for blacklisting.
An earlier decision by a lower court went the opposite direction. District Judge Rita Lin stated that the government's moves were intended “to make a public example” of Anthropic.
Axios characterized the Sunday dinner as an indication of improving ties following a challenging year.

The political criticism persists. A recent memo from an adviser to Trump characterized Amodei as a prominent advocate of AI “doomerism” — the notion that AI poses a threat to humankind. Trump has also taken aim at Amodei on Truth Social for urging a slower pace in AI development.
The tensions come as Anthropic readies for its initial public offering. The firm has postponed its stock market debut to November, with valuations around $2 trillion being considered.
On Tuesday, President Trump and House Speaker Mike Johnson are set to meet leading AI executives at the White House. The complete attendee list remains undisclosed.
A White House representative provided Axios with the administration’s stance.
