USDCHF retreats from daily resistance; sellers target hourly floor

USDCHF retreats from 0.8400 resistance, tests hourly floor at 0.82636-0.82740.

A fresh high was reached for USDCHF on Tuesday, the highest since May 2025, but buyers encountered a significant daily technical target.

At 0.8400 sits the 50% retracement of the decline from the 2025 peak. Tuesday's high, around 0.83944, fell just short of that level. Sellers used that resistance to push the price downwards.

Buyers had an opportunity to push the rally further but failed to breach that key target.

For sellers, the 0.8400 level now provides a risk reference on the daily timeframe. As long as the pair remains below that point, further downside correction is possible. A sustained break above 0.8400 would be required to resume the upward extension.

The daily chart frames the pullback in a broader view

Even though the rejection is significant, the daily chart indicates that USDCHF has gained ground over the past months. It climbed above its 100-day and 200-day moving averages and navigated through previous swing points.

The current uncertainty centres on how much of those gains the buyers can retain.

At 0.82116 lies the 38.2% Fibonacci retracement of the larger downturn, close to the top of a daily swing zone spanning roughly 0.81706 to 0.82148.

Should selling pressure increase, that zone will gain significance. Under it, the ascending 100-day moving average around 0.81156 offers an additional longer-term marker.

Before reaching those daily objectives, nearer hourly levels will provide more immediate signals.

Hourly chart indicates sellers have regained control

On the hourly timeframe, the drop from Tuesday's peak has pushed the price under multiple technical thresholds.

It broke through the0.83415-0.83480 swing zone, slipped under the converging 100- and 200-hour moving averages around 0.8320, and then breached a further swing area at0.82908-0.82971.

These breaks have tilted the near-term bias in favour of sellers.

The most recent decline has taken the pair into a clearly defined swing zone from 0.82636 to 0.82740. This area has served as both support and resistance since mid-September. It is a level that has drawn trader attention before and continues to do so now.

With the price near the lower end of that zone, USDCHF is at a critical point.

Defend the floor or risk further declines

For those wanting to halt the slide, this zone provides a point of defence. Keeping above the lower boundary and reclaiming 0.82740 would be an initial move towards stabilisation.

After that, buyers would need to regain the0.82908-0.82971 area, then the hourly moving averages near 0.8320, to assume greater control.

On the other hand, a decisive break below 0.82636, sustained, would open the path to 0.82243-0.82250. That level represents the 38.2% hourly retracement of the recent upmove combined with a former swing point.

Lower down, focus would shift to daily support in the 0.82116-0.82148 range.

Sellers have gained additional influence on the hourly chart. Their next challenge is to break through the current floor.

Trading takeaway: daily chart sets the scene, hourly chart manages risk

The daily chart identified the potential trouble spot for the rally: the 50% retracement level near 0.8400.

The hourly chart subsequently illustrated the shift in momentum as the price fell through swing areas and moving averages.

No single chart can predict the next price move. But combined, they offer traders a framework.

In the 0.82636-0.82740 zone, buyers have a clear area to protect, while sellers have a defined level to break. Observe the price action here to indicate the next direction.
