Switch 2 fans use 20 cent bananas at Walmart to unlock a $10 grocery promo code on games like Fire Emblem, prompting stock issues and unaddressed policy…
Owners of the Nintendo Switch 2 have taken to dropping 20 cent bananas into their Walmart carts, since the fruit is what gets a grocery promo code to apply to games. The code knocks $10 off.
Walmart's banana listing now reads as unavailable for online shipping. The actual transaction takes place inside the app, rather than in the produce section.
Nintendo fans are buying 20 cent bananas at Walmart to unlock promo codes that drop the price of Switch 2 games by up to $20

Walmart has a checkout code in place that slices $10 off pickup and delivery orders. It is aimed at grocery baskets, though, not games.
Switch fans discovered that Fire Emblem Fortune’s Weave, Nintendo’s latest strategy title, still qualified. So a single banana was enough to register the cart as produce, and deal forums now refer to it as the banana trick.
The code trims the full order rather than a single product. Any Switch 2 game sitting in the cart can come along for the ride, though Fire Emblem is the one named in reports so far.
The 20 cent bananas add next to nothing to the total. Some buyers then removed the fruit before checkout, and the discount held up anyway.
A download cannot be slotted into a pickup order, so the loophole calls for a physical copy. Fire Emblem arrives as a full cartridge, though Nintendo also offers key cards that carry only a download, and Sony will halt game disc production in 2028.
In the meantime, the listing turned into the holdup. Switch 2 copies show low stock, and the code is failing more frequently now.
The retailer has not said whether it put a cap on the item to close the gap. Pickup and delivery orders do require a worker to hit the produce aisle, so some of these bananas are legit. One piece of fruit per order hardly empties a store.
Nintendo stock climbed 6% over the five sessions around the launch, bouncing back from the dip that followed the September game reveals. The shares still sit well under where they began the year.
Walmart, for its part, rattled traders in August with a rare sales shortfall.
Walmart has not commented publicly. Until the rule gets rewritten, every Switch 2 launch sets up another rush at the cheapest item in the cart.
