Asia-Pacific shares mostly higher; KOSPI surges 3.4%
Asia-Pacific stocks mostly rose on Tuesday, led by South Korea's KOSPI surging 3.4% on AI chip-driven GDP; China and Hong Kong lagged.
Anthropic’s IPO filing boosted Nvidia and other chip stocks, but investors are divided on the reported $2 trillion valuation.
Anthropic’s IPO filing boosted Nvidia 2.4% on Monday. The listing’s reported $2 trillion valuation has already split investors.
Anthropic plans to trade on Nasdaq under the ticker ANT. Shares of Nvidia, Broadcom, and Micron all rose, and the Nasdaq Composite gained 0.8%. Some investors had earlier discussed a $1.5 trillion price after revenue growth slowed.
CoreWeave, an AI cloud rental firm that has faced debt issues, also climbed after a series of weekly losses.
Gil Luria, head of technology research at DA Davidson, singled out Amazon, Alphabet, and Broadcom as beneficiaries of the offering.
Raj Joshi, Moody’s senior vice president, said the shift to adjusted operating profit is positive for AI. Paul Meeks, Freedom Capital’s head of technology research, said he was not impressed by the 10% margin, though he was somewhat surprised.
According to the filing, revenue in the first half totaled $16.3 billion, more than triple the $4.6 billion that the company had in all of 2025.
The $80.7 billion net loss through June mainly reflects a $72.4 billion non-cash charge relating to convertible debt. Luria said Anthropic’s losses are minimal even when including stock-based compensation.
A CNBC panel described ANT as a way for retail investors to gain AI exposure beyond chip stocks. It noted 12,000 clients paying over $100,000. Goldman Sachs data shows retail traders account for only 9% of US equity volume, down from 15% late last year.
Nigel Green, CEO of financial advisory firm deVere Group, told BeInCrypto that public shareholders would bear the risk if spending exceeds revenue.
Anthropic’s cloud contracts set minimum spending levels, meaning shortfalls in usage still require payments.
Wednesday brings a Federal Reserve decision and earnings reports from Alphabet and Microsoft. Anthropic could begin trading as soon as Nov. 16.
The pricing will test Wall Street’s appetite for AI. OpenAI, which is expected to wait until early 2027, is targeting a $1.25 trillion valuation in a pre-IPO round.
