Bitcoin ETFs predicted to surpass gold ETFs by three times
Bloomberg analyst Eric Balchunas predicts Bitcoin ETFs will triple gold ETFs in assets as younger investors mature and volatility decreases.
Bloomberg's Eric Balchunas predicts Bitcoin ETFs could hold three times gold's ETF assets, implying a potential BTC price range of $490k-$730k.
Bloomberg's senior ETF analyst Eric Balchunas has predicted that Bitcoin exchange-traded funds will eventually amass assets three times the size of those held by gold ETFs. Against today's figures, that represents an exceptionally bold projection.
At the close of August, gold ETFs worldwide held approximately $615 billion. If Bitcoin ETFs were to triple that amount, their assets would approach $1.85 trillion, which is roughly 19 times their current level.
Should the Bloomberg analyst's forecast prove accurate, what might that mean for the price of Bitcoin?
Balchunas attributes his outlook to three key factors:
Yes. Here’s why: 1) btc leans younger, gold older 2) it will get used more by big money as it matures and settles down w both vol and corr 3) way more enthusiasm and sales firepower. no one is out there talking about gold ETFs but you got dozens of wholesalers (fluent in both… https://t.co/bHBBuNkXLf

There is no straightforward calculation involved. ETF assets expand both through fresh capital and rising Bitcoin prices. Yet simple scenario arithmetic highlights the necessary scale. US funds currently control roughly 1.26 million BTC.
Should their Bitcoin holdings double to 2.52 million coins with ETF assets reaching $1.85 trillion, Bitcoin would need to trade near $732,000.
If ETF holdings were to triple to 3.78 million BTC, the implied price would drop to approximately $488,000.
That yields an illustrative band of roughly $490,000 to $730,000, or about 6–10 times the current price.
This is not a price target. Gold ETF assets may keep expanding, and Bitcoin funds could accumulate considerably more coins.
However, should Balchunas' projection materialise anywhere near present gold valuations, it would demand a Bitcoin market substantially larger than what exists today.
