Crude futures recover after earlier decline, reclaim $93.48

Crude oil futures rebounded after slipping to $91.70, reclaiming $93.48. The next upside target is yesterday's high at $94.36.

Crude futures have recovered after spending the earlier session in the red, with buying interest defending a meaningful support cluster.

The session bottom came in at $91.70, a touch above the $91.60 level representing the 38.2% retracement of the climb from July's low to September's high. The price also stayed above the upward-sloping 100-hour moving average at $91.36 and the 200-hour moving average at $90.86.

Traders can use that three-part support zone as a clear risk reference point. To tilt the technical outlook more decisively lower, sellers must push beneath all three of those levels. Until that happens, the upper hand stays with buyers.

Buyers have now recaptured $93.48, with the high from the previous session the next objective.

That bounce has carried crude above the top boundary of a $93.48 swing area, and prices were last seen around $93.79. Holding above $93.48 would leave the immediate momentum pointed upward.

The next objective is $94.36, the high from the prior session. A break beyond that level would open the way toward the late-September highs near $96.50, followed by the swing area running from $97.00 to $98.48.

What would hand more control to sellers?

A slide back under $93.48 would sap the rebound, though the support cluster spanning $91.60 to $90.86 would still need to be overcome.

Once that zone gives way, attention would turn to Monday's low near $89.60, with the September swing bottom at $88.72 next. Below those levels, traders would focus on the 50% midpoint of the July-to-September rally at $86.91, a level that was tested on October 6.

For now, sellers got their chance near the retracement support and failed to break through. Buyers have wrestled back some momentum, and the immediate task is to hold $93.48 and extend through $94.36.

A trading lesson: technical levels can be used to define risk.

Support clusters form when a Fibonacci retracement and moving averages are bunched together. That creates a well-defined zone for traders to judge whether buyers are still in charge or sellers are making headway.

In crude, the relevant support spans from $91.60 to $90.86. Staying above it keeps the bullish bias supported, while a break below it—with follow-through—would make the case for sellers stronger.

The broader point is to let price action be the guide. A support level offers buyers a place to lean on and manage risk, but it does not guarantee a rally. Know before entering what would show your trade is wrong.
