Nasdaq 100 futures | Technical analysis | November 5, 2026

The overnight bounce has held up against renewed selling pressure, as buyers defended elevated prices and pushed Nasdaq futures back toward a resistance zone. The key question now is whether this recovery can turn into a sustained climb above 28,476.

Nasdaq 100 futures have mounted a notable recovery overnight, gaining roughly 280 points from a low of 28,167.75 to reach 28,447. Although the move shows encouraging underlying signs, buyers still need to demonstrate that this is not merely a short-term bounce within a larger pullback.

The December 2026 Nasdaq 100 futures contract (NQ) was trading near 28,424 as of 05:37 EST (10:37 UTC) on November 5.

The critical test now is whether buyers can push through resistance between 28,447 and 28,476, or if sellers will use the rebound as a fresh chance to take back control.

Why this Nasdaq rebound deserves attention

A sharp market rebound can happen simply because selling pressure fades temporarily. That alone does not signal a lasting bullish shift has started.

What makes this recovery notable is how Nasdaq futures reacted when sellers tried to drive prices down again.

After hitting the overnight low near 28,168, futures climbed above 28,300. Then came a key test: prices slid back toward 28,274 but held well above the earlier low.

Buyers then stepped in again, lifting futures back above 28,400.

That pattern matters because the market did not just snap back. It created a higher low, defended it, and then resumed its upward move.

This indicates that sellers became less effective at pushing prices down, at least over the period examined.

Another detail stands out.

Part of the advance happened without particularly strong aggressive buying. Put differently, prices rose even though buyers were not consistently overpowering sellers.

One possible reading is that selling pressure was losing its force. Another is that liquidity was relatively thin, allowing price gains with less buying activity.

Neither reading proves a lasting reversal is under way. But the combination of a defended higher low and renewed upward movement makes the recovery worth monitoring.

Nasdaq futures reclaimed an important average price

A further positive development was the move back above the overnight volume-weighted average price (VWAP), near 28,352 at the analysis cutoff.

VWAP reflects the average price paid over a given period, with more weight on prices where trading volume was higher.

For traders, it provides a useful gauge of whether the market is sitting above or below a key reference price.

Recovering above that level suggests the short-term balance has tilted in favor of buyers.

The more crucial test, however, is whether Nasdaq futures can stay above this area when sellers step back in.

A market that briefly retakes a key level but immediately falls back below it has not shown the same strength as one that successfully holds the recovery during a dip.

That distinction is especially relevant now, with resistance immediately ahead.

The critical resistance area: 28,447 to 28,476

The recovery peaked at 28,447 before pulling back modestly.

This puts Nasdaq futures near a significant resistance zone stretching toward 28,476.

A move above this band would be promising, but traders should differentiate between briefly poking above resistance and actually turning it into support.

For instance, a breakout followed by a successful retest of the former resistance area would provide stronger evidence of bullish control than a single push above 28,476.

If buyers manage sustained trading above that level, the next potential recovery target lies between 28,500 and 28,545.

Conversely, another rejection near resistance could signal that sellers remain active at higher prices.

The market has already shown that buyers can defend a pullback. It has not yet shown that they can overcome this supply overhead.

Nasdaq 100 futures: Key technical levels to watch

28,447-28,476 | Immediate resistance

The first major barrier. Sustained trading above this zone would bolster the bullish recovery case.

28,500-28,545 | Next upside area

A possible target for the recovery if buyers establish control above immediate resistance.

28,420-28,435 | Near-term battleground

An area where traders can gauge whether the recovery is maintaining its immediate momentum.

28,350-28,370 | Important support

A key reference around the overnight VWAP and a previously active trading zone. Defending it would help preserve the recovery structure.

28,273-28,316 | Earlier defensive zone

The area linked to the recovery's higher-low formation. Sustained weakness below it would significantly hurt the short-term bullish case.

28,167.75 | Overnight low

The deeper reference for judging whether the recovery has failed and the earlier decline is reasserting itself.

Three possible scenarios for Nasdaq futures traders

1. Bullish continuation: Buyers overcome resistance

The most constructive outcome would see Nasdaq futures break above 28,476 and hold prices above that region.

A successful subsequent retest would further support the bullish view.

In that scenario, attention could shift toward 28,500-28,545.

Still, traders should avoid treating every brief penetration of resistance as a confirmed breakout. The ability to sustain higher prices is what would offer the stronger evidence.

2. Consolidation: Buyers defend the recovery

Nasdaq futures could struggle near resistance without immediately turning bearish.

A pullback toward 28,350-28,370, followed by renewed buying, would suggest the market is consolidating rather than giving up its recent gains.

This would keep alive the possibility of another attempt to challenge overhead resistance.

The distinction matters because a healthy recovery does not require steady gains. Pullbacks can help reveal whether buyers remain willing to support the market.

3. Bearish rejection: Sellers regain control

Warning signs would increase if Nasdaq futures repeatedly fail near 28,447-28,476 and then fall below 28,350-28,370.

That combination would indicate the recovery is losing momentum and sellers are once again becoming more effective.

The next area to watch would be 28,273-28,316.

Sustained trading below that defensive zone would seriously undermine the short-term rebound, leaving the overnight low of 28,167.75 as the deeper reference.

Importantly, a retreat into support would not automatically confirm this bearish scenario. The market's reaction at those levels would be key.

The lesson for traders: A strong rebound is not necessarily a bullish reversal

One challenge in trading market reversals is recognizing the difference between early signs of improving conditions and confirmation that a broader trend has shifted.

Waiting for every possible confirmation can mean missing much of the initial recovery. Acting on the first bounce, however, risks entering a move that quickly fades.

The Nasdaq's overnight action illustrates that tension.

The recovery has already shown that buyers can defend higher prices even after renewed selling. That is constructive and should not be ignored simply because the broader market structure remains uncertain.

But buyers still face another test: proving they can overcome resistance and hold the higher ground.

For now, 28,476 is the key upside test, while 28,350-28,370 is an important area for assessing whether the recovery remains intact.

The Nasdaq 100 futures bounce has passed its first meaningful test. Whether it becomes something more durable will depend on what comes next.

I am also tracking macro cross-currents and election fallout that are dominating positioning across the board today. In commodities, crude saw a steep selloff while bullion surged, creating a pivotal tape where gold jumped past $4,000 while oil slumped on Iran diplomacy hopes, putting Citi's thesis on diplomatic de-escalation driving precious metals directly to the test.

Across digital assets, sentiment has turned sharply constructive after the vote, but I need to see how order flow behaves around key liquidity overhead: Bitcoin bulls are back post-midterms, yet the $82,000 price magnet could change everything if price acceptance fails to hold above critical resistance.

At the same time, mounting fatigue over aggressive artificial intelligence capital expenditures has triggered a tangible sector rotation: while hyperscalers navigate shifting budget priorities, Berkshire added $27 million of Sirius XM as investors rotate from AI toward value stocks and cash-generative plays.

That pivot away from energy-intensive tech infrastructure is finding heavy fundamental backing in the political arena, where local ballot outcomes revealed that the biggest loser of the US elections was data centers amid stiff community opposition and tighter local regulatory hurdles.
