NZDUSD buyers have broken above key moving averages and a swing area, with the next test at 0.5673-0.5686. A sustained move above would target the 38.2%…
Buyers are beginning to shift the technical outlook.
After an extended decline, NZDUSD buyers have started to shift the shorter-term technical outlook. The recovery has been gradual, with each breakout providing a bit more conviction to buyers. However, more progress is needed before the recent strength can become a significant correction to the larger downtrend.
Thursday's break through the moving averages acted as the catalyst.
The initial move occurred on Thursday as the price broke away from the 100- and 200-hour moving averages. These averages provide a reference for the short-term trend and for risk management. A rise above both, followed by a sustained distance from them, indicates that sellers are weakening and buyers are more inclined to enter.
That breakout served as the catalyst. Friday, the price broke above the swing zone of 0.56225–0.5633, offering further technical evidence.
Why is this significant? Swing areas mark prices where buyers and sellers have historically acted. A break above a former resistance forces revaluation of positions. Sellers short against that level lose some technical support, while buyers acquire a reference for managing risk on any decline.
Thus, the push above 0.56225–0.5633 reinforced the bullish change and paved the way for gains toward the next resistance band of 0.5673–0.5686.
The next challenge is the 0.5673–0.5686 zone.
In September, multiple swing levels were established in that area before sellers drove the price lower. As the price climbs back, traders will observe whether sellers hold the zone again or buyers muster enough strength to break through.
For buyers, rising above the zone is only the first move. Holding above it would add conviction to the breakout. A quick surge above resistance followed by a swift pullback would leave the market at risk of another leg down. Buyers would have taken their chance, and a failed hold would indicate sellers remain ready to defend the overall bearish trend.
A breakout above would set the 38.2% retracement as the next objective.
A lasting push above 0.5686 would remove another barrier and bring the 38.2% retracement of the drop from August's peak at 0.57258 into focus.
The retracement serves as a key gauge for the recovery's strength. Buyers may see hourly gains even if the larger trend stays corrective. A push to, and beyond, the 38.2% level would further show they are regaining control. Until that happens, the recovery remains unconfirmed.
The previous resistance now serves as the support to monitor.
On the downside, the 0.56225–0.5633 swing area becomes the support level. The prior ceiling now offers buyers a chance to demonstrate they can protect the breakout.
Staying above that zone during a retreat would preserve the recovery pattern and provide buyers with a base for a fresh advance. A drop below it would undermine the breakout narrative and refocus attention on the hour moving averages.
Follow the technical steps helps define risk.
That is the benefit of tracking these technical milestones. Each breakout sets a fresh target but also a risk reference. Traders can assess the recovery by watching if the price keeps clearing resistance and then holding those levels as support.
Buyers have advanced. They have moved beyond the hour moving averages and broken the first swing zone. Breaking and holding above 0.5673–0.5686 is the next test of their capability.
