Robinhood Chain halted block production for 14 minutes on Friday, with no cause disclosed. The incident underscores risks of a single-sequencer design.
On Friday, Robinhood Chain halted the creation of new blocks, resulting in a transaction freeze lasting a minimum of 14 minutes. The company has not revealed why the outage occurred or when operations might resume.
Typically, the network finalizes a block each 0.1 seconds. A 14-minute interruption means approximately 8,400 blocks were missed.
The chain's latest block was several minutes behind, with no new blocks being added. In the previous 30 minutes, pending transactions stood at zero.
Activity leading up to the halt was high. According to Blockscout, the preceding day saw 14.14 million transactions, with an average fee of $0.48.

Robinhood Markets (HOOD) does not operate a public status page for the blockchain. This means block explorers are the sole real-time indicator of its operational status.
The chain's mainnet went live on July 1, powered by Arbitrum's Nitro software. Each block includes a single poster address, a vanity string that spells 'sequencer' in hexadecimal.
This architecture puts one operator in charge of ordering all transactions. If that operator goes offline, users lack a backup sequencer and cannot push their transactions through.
L2BEAT, which evaluates Layer 2 decentralization, places Robinhood Chain below Stage 0, the lowest classification. The platform highlights the single sequencer and the ability to upgrade contracts instantly. Just two authorized participants can challenge incorrect states.
These compromises are now more significant. L2BEAT estimates the chain holds $2.46 billion in assets.
Earlier this week, BeInCrypto noted that the blockchain achieved a record in decentralized exchange (DEX) activity. That record single-day DEX volume surpassed $1.06 billion, fueled by meme coins instead of tokenized equities.
Revenue from fees generated by that activity has flowed into the broader Arbitrum ecosystem, boosting Uniswap's earnings and the ARB token.
When a brokerage stops trading, it is expected to explain why. The unresolved question is whether Robinhood will apply the same standard to a blockchain outage.
