Swiss inflation tops forecasts; USDCHF falls but 100-day MA holds as support

USDCHF fell after Swiss inflation surprised to the upside; the decline stalled at the 100-day moving average.

During European trading, the USDCHF declined after Swiss inflation beat forecasts. October's CPI climbed 0.2% against expectations of no change, and the yearly rate rose from 1.0% to 1.5%, exceeding the 1.3% prediction. The stronger figures boosted the Swiss franc and gave sellers of USDCHF further downward momentum.

But sellers bumped into a pivotal technical level. The dropping price hit the ascending 100-day moving average at roughly 0.81563, just above a swing territory from 0.81383 to 0.81513. Buyers leaned on that support and stopped the decline.

Sellers took their chance. Now buyers are pushing back.

The decline occurred after breakdowns near the 200-hour moving average on Friday and again yesterday. Those breakdowns allowed sellers to move lower, and today's inflation report delivered an extra fundamental push downward.

Yet even with the news in their favour, sellers could not keep momentum through the next major support level. The bounce off the 100-day moving average indicates buyers were ready to step in where risk was defined and restricted.

This keeps buyers engaged. They still need to achieve more to take fuller command.

The next gauge is the swing area between 0.82162 and 0.82250.

The rally has returned the price to the familiar swing zone from 0.82162 to 0.82250. That region has worked as both support and resistance several times since September. The 38.2% retracement of the August-to-October advance also passes through this area at 0.82243.

Some deceleration of the bounce is expected here.

Above that zone, the dropping 100-hour moving average at 0.82335 and the 200-hour moving average at 0.82447 install another resistance layer. Buyers must push above and stay above those averages to lift more of the downside weight from the pair. If they achieve that, the next swing area sits from 0.82636 to 0.82740.

What might hand sellers more control?

If resistance remains, sellers can target back toward 0.81905–0.81826, then the 50% halfway mark at 0.81717.

Below that, the 100-day moving average around 0.81563 stays a key downside barometer. Dropping beneath that average and through the 0.81383–0.81513 swing area would unlock the route to the 61.8% retracement at 0.81191.

Buyers have kept support intact for the moment. Sellers have resistance above to employ.

Lesson: News provides the impetus. Technical levels set out the risk.

Stronger Swiss inflation supplied traders with a reason to sell USDCHF. The 100-day moving average offered buyers a spot to lean on with controlled risk.

Defending support can trigger a bounce, but reversing the broader bearish trend requires buyers to recapture resistance. Note how the price acts at the swing area and hourly moving averages. Those readings will clarify whether this is a corrective bounce or the start of a stronger recovery.
