Copper Drops 2.68% Despite 44% Supply Deficit Warning
Copper fell 2.68% after BNEF warned of a 44% supply deficit by 2050, but near-term surplus and rising LME stocks pressured prices.
Gold briefly fell below $4,000 before rebounding, with technical levels signaling what buyers must achieve to regain control.
In a recent educational article, the reasons for goldâs decline amid falling Treasury yields were examined. Lower yields typically provide support for a non-interest-bearing asset such as gold. But the dollar delivered mixed signals, and goldâs failure to regain its hourly moving averages kept the technical bias in sellersâ favour. The anticipated confirmation from price action did not arrive.
On Tuesday, that technical story continued as gold broke below $4,000, only for buyers to push back.
The sequence of breaks and the key levels discussed help determine whether this rebound can develop into something more.
The moving averages indicated which side held the technical advantage.
On Monday, gold dipped under its 100- and 200-hour moving averages, located near $4,153, and remained there.
Being below those averages gives sellers the stronger technical hand. A rally toward them gives buyers an opportunity to challenge that control while giving sellers a reference to define risk.
Buyers had another chance the previous day. The bounce tested resistance at the moving averages but could not hold above them, and the price turned lower.
Sellers stayed in control, and the next downside target became clearer.
Breaching $4,065.94 opened the door to further declines.
Repeated tests of support near $4,065.94 took place throughout October, including during Tuesdayâs session. Once that floor finally broke, selling accelerated.
The price passed through the $4,018.79 swing level, fell below the natural $4,000 support, and reached approximately $3,986 before rebounding.
Pre-identifying targets is valuable. A support break gives traders a reason to look toward the next area where buyers may react. It also gives sellers a point to reassess after an extended move.
On Tuesday, buyers responded once the price dropped under $4,000 and drove it back above $4,018.79.
That is a constructive first step, but more remains required.
The next requirements are as follows:
For buyers, $4,018.79 serves as an initial barometer. Staying above it allows the rebound to build a base. The nearby $4,023.48 level is another obstacle, then the more important broken floor at $4,065.94.
Returning above $4,065.94âand holding thereâwould ease pressure and suggest the downside break is losing force.
Beyond those, the larger hurdles remain the declining hourly moving averages. Their approximate values are:
100-hour moving average: $4,102.35
200-hour moving average: $4,129.83
Until buyers reclaim those moving averages, sellers keep the stronger near-term technical position.
On the downside, a move back under $4,018.79 would bring $4,000 and Tuesdayâs low near $3,986 back into play. Below that low, the next swing support area lies between roughly $3,942.71 and $3,959.37.
Let the price action guide trading decisions.
The bounce shows buyers are willing to lean against lower levels, but it does not yet prove they have taken control.
The process remains: define the technical lean, pinpoint where that lean would be challenged, and know the next targets.
Sellers held the moving averages, support broke, lower targets were reached. Now buyers have responded, and the technical levels offer a way to judge that response.
These levels give a closer look at what buyers need to turn the bounce into a stronger recovery.
